Light years ahead of any single network IM application out there???
I use Adium for my Mac, but for my PC, it's definitely Digsby!
Not only does it allow you to log into Google, Yahoo, AIM, Windows Messenger and Myspace IM, it also notifies you of new messages for all your email accounts, MySpace Accounts, Facebook accounts, twitter AND lets you open a small window for each where you can view the emails, save delete or go directly to each account without having to login each time!
I'm not a sci-fi space geek, but I assume that by "light years ahead" you mean better, which is not the case for Pidgin.
