Elderly Amish Man Caught on Film With Prostitute, Blackmailed
When a 75-year-old Amish widower slept with a prostitute, he -- we feel certain -- felt pretty bad about it the next morning. As if that guilt weren't enough for the old man, the prostitute and her boyfriend demanded $67,000 from him, claiming that they had filmed the scene with wall-mounted cameras and would upload the recording to the Internet. The pair was later arrested and, we can only imagine, the Amish man abhorred technology more than ever.
Bank Robber Gets Away With the Help of Craiglist
In October, a bank robber -- wearing a safety vest, blue shirt, face mask and goggles -- eluded police with the help of Craiglist. Just outside the bank, while the robbery was in progress, stood a group of men who were responding to a Craiglist day labor opportunity. As the advertisement required, they were all wearing safety vests, blue shirts, face masks and goggles.
Nude New Zealander Arrested After Responding to Fake Sexy Text Message
Late in 2007, a Wellington, New Zealand man received a racy text message from two anonymous "ladies," giving him only an address and a request that he show up naked. Well, he indeed showed up naked... at the home of one appalled, unsuspecting New Zealander. Both the nude Romeo and the sadistic texter were arrested, though neither were prosecuted.
Fake Craiglist Ad Costs Man Most of What He Owns
Last Spring, a post appeared on an Oregon Craigslist board stating that the owner of a specific house was leaving all of his worldly possessions (still in said house) to whoever wanted them. When homeowner Robert Salisbury rushed home -- on a tip from a woman suspicious about the offer of a free horse -- he found his house being ransacked by 30 strangers. We suggest he take that horse and collect some vengeance Clint Eastwood-style.
17-Year-Old Jailed for Stealing Virtual 'Furniture'
When a 17-year-old Dutch boy hacked into several accounts on the Second Life-style site 'Habbo' in 2007, the the law got involved. The boy was discovered to have stolen $5,800 worth of virtual furniture and knick-knacks. Apparently, crime -- whether actual or virtual -- does not pay.
Phishers Going After Your Phones in New 'Vishing' Trend
Over the past year, sneaky spammers have begun to forsake the worn-out territory of e-mail in favor of cell phones' fertile frontier. The result? "Vishing." Get it? Voice mail phishing. It might be more ominous if it didn't sound like a James Bond villain saying, "Wishing."
Burglars Break Into Restaurant, Steal HDTV, Leave Money / Food Behind
Around Halloween of last year, a truckload of thieves drove into -- that's right, into -- a Pennsylvania Mexican restaurant, where they -- apparently uninterested in the cash register -- stole a mid-grade 47-inch HDTV and fled the scene. We've all heard about how this generation is lacking in ambition, but this generation's thieves, too?

PORNOGRAPHY VICTIMIZES WOMEN AND CHILDREN. IT IS THE NUMBER ONE TOOL USED BY PREDATORS TO LURE AND SEDUCE CHILDREN. IT DESTROYS MARRIAGES, AND ENCOURAGES ADULTERY. IT IS VERY DAMAGING TO SOCIETY.
IT ENCOURAGES SEXUAL VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN. THIS IS DONE BY TURNING WOMEN INTO SEX OBJECTS. OBJECTS ARE NOT RESPECTED AS HAVING FEELINGS OR DREAMS, OR AS "HUMAN" . AND THIS IS JUST THE "REGULAR" PORN, NOT THE KIND THAT SPECIALIZES IN ABUSE.
PORN GIVES FALSE IDEAS OF WHAT SEX AND SEXUALITY ARE.
THERE IS USUALLY NO LOVE OR RESPECT INVOLVED.
IT CREATES PRESSURE ON WOMEN TO CONFORM TO THE MORE BIZARRE SEX ACTS, OR RISK BEING CALLED A PRUDE. SOME FEMINISTS FEEL PORN WAS INTRODUCED AS A MEANS TO "LEVEL" THE PLAYING FIELD AS WOMEN GREW IN POWER.
PORN IS NOT A "VICTIMLESS CRIME" . IT IS A BILLION DOLLAR INDUSTRY BASED ON MONEY. THE WORLD WOULD BE A BETTER PLACE WITH OUT IT.

Terri, I couldn't agree with you more. I am sickened by what girls are expected to be and do nowadays. I have a 20 year old daughter who is struggling with her self esteem because of her idiot boyfriend's porn ADDICTION, which he claims is harmless. All the pressure is on women now to conform to these sick "ideals"; I have never known a woman to pressure her man to look, dress, or behave like something from pornography. You hear of girls aspiring to be porn stars, strippers, Playboy models, etc., which is nothing you would want to become on purpose.

If the boyfriend has an addiction of any sort for which he is not willing to seek some help, it time to find a new boyfriend.

Although your all allowed your opinions, one that I aggree with for the most part, I must point out that this feature is designed to protect ones privacy. Can it and will it be used to hide porn browsing, ofcourse, but it will also be used to hide online banking and bill paying activity and maybe prevent someone from getting their identity stolen. I don't think having a browser clear historys and caches when the session is done will enable more children to access porn. Other weak measures are in place to help with that, and those didn't change. Not that they don't need to. Um ya, i'm 18. Sure. Besides, most kids I know can do that anyway. They are not as dumb as most of them look. Not that i'm judging anyone, but the way my wife and I take care of eachother, we don't need to look at porn. Maybe someone's not doing their duties as a mate to make sure their parterners' needs are meet. I'm just saying ;)

How about this as a slogan for the new, though not necessarily improved, IE 8? "CYA with IE8!" This new program is guaranteed to be a hit with government employees, crack dealers, pedophiles, identity thieves, philandering husbands and wayward teens. Coming soon to a computer near you... sadly. This really makes me concerned that Bill Gates is slipping, God love him....

The history of where you browsed may not reside on your computer where you or someone else can easily see it, but don't kid yourself about being anonymous. Your browsing behavior will still reside on the servers of your internet provider, in the records of the websites you visited, and maybe deep in your own harddrive.

Porn has never done anything bad to me, why all the hatred? It helps financially strapped young women through college, right? Plus, using my imagination sucks.

I see AngieBaby likes her "Government-Controlled Police-State". Yep we must have every citizen tracked, since they just might happen to break a law online one day. Yes - we are now a country of guilty until proven innocent!
Get real, -- If I want my information to be private (like my patent work) then by god I should be allowed to have my info private, without the prying eyes of some cheap paid security goon looking over my shoulder!
I want my god given freedoms as stated in the constitution - Thank you! So stay out of my computer and out of my life!

Terri, for God's sake, will you stop typing in all caps? I think I agree with you at times, but the all caps make my eyes hurt, so I just move on to the next comment.
Thanks in advance,
Nik

Let's think logically about this: We need to stop laying blame on those other than ourselves about who is responsible for our actions. Sure, there are those in the porn industry who do VERY horrible things to women AND men alike, but the USER is responsible for their own translation of the material and their own actions after viewing/using a product. I have met with a very well known woman from the porn industry and she was a VERY respectable person who had a good head on her shoulders. Perhaps she was just lucky to have had the experiences she had, but in the end she was just another working woman and I respected her for her views and outlook on life.
Porn can (and has) destroyed marriages, but it is not the fault of the industry, just the predisposition of the couple to view it as negative and a scapegoat for justifying their own negative self-image without wanting to work on it. The media's ads and children's toy lines (especially girls' dolls) are as much to blame for the unrealistic expectations we place on our youth where looks and actions are concerned.
We are all entitled to our viewpoints and comments, but all I propose is that we think rationally and critically about where those opinions come from before we pass hate-filled judgement on those we have never interacted with without first taking the time to examine ourselves and those "affected" by the industry.

Interesting this discussion. I recently caught a tirade from a lady I wrote to on a public dating site because of my occupation (which is working for a website that provides adult entertainment advertising). I am up-front about it so that any woman who might be offended can avoid me (believe me, I don't need that pain ;-) Well, this lady got an email from me and DIDN'T look at my profile and when she asked me about my job and I told her, she said I had been hiding info from her (not true, she could have looked at my profile which I had directed her to do). And she lambasted the industry (which I agree has its issues with exploitation, but then so does Wal-mart Stores exploiting underpaid workers, and off-shore wholesalers with their child worker sweatshops (remember Martha Stewart?) People can be exploited in all sorts of ways.
What was funny about this woman's anti-porn tirade was that in her photos on the dating site, she depicted herself in a bikini in all sorts of alluring poses. Now I won't say that I ignored that either (hell, I am human!) but I thought it was funny that she would rant about the objectification of women and how that is awful, yet at the same time play directly into the hands of the entire culture by self-objectifying herself. LOL What hypocrisy (but then again, hypocrisy abounds in our society - witness our latest VP candidate Ms. Palin from Alaska, and countless men of the cloth who have raped little boys and slept with prostitutes, etc., etc., yada yada yada).
Terri, porn, like most other vices, is subject to the user's own behavior and attitudes. Porn, when used by people who are loving with each other, can be a fun exciting thing. Porn, when used by sick people, is, well, just sick. But it is the people who make it so, not the porn, just like responsible alcohol intake is perfectly okay, but in the hands of an alcoholic or a drunken college student, it can be deadly.

These 'new' features of IE8 don't seem all that new. I already have my FireFox browser configured to not keep browser history, delete cookies at session end, delete cache at session end, etc. It works pretty good. I can mark cookies that I want to keep (but I don't keep any - this does mess with my Chase login as they decided to keep an authentication credential in a cookie - dmbfcks). I use CCleaner to wipe out those remaining temp files that all programs, including browsers, tend to leave laying around.
As for porn, I agree with those that contend that the devil is in the people and not the product. I watch commercials with people flying through the air but I have no desire to jump off buildings. I listen to gospel music sometimes but I'm not going to church on Sunday. And I watch a porn on occasion and I respect, not abuse, women.
