Anti-Semitic Video Lands YouTube in Hot Water With French Jewish Group

Everyone knows that among its millions of videos, YouTube host some pretty stupid and offensive content. Because of a recent video that reeks of anti-Semitism, the Google-owned site is facing a lawsuit by a French Jewish group.

The clip in question is a slideshow of 150 Jewish public figures played over the song "Rebecca's wedding," a pre-World War II tune that portrays Jewish wedding guests as "dirty, rude, and dishonest." Sammy Ghozlan, the head of the National Bureau of Vigilance Against Anti-Semitism, said, "We consider this video, though it names no-one, to be a photographic list of an anti-Semitic nature and therefore liable to criminal prosecution." The BNVCA has already sued Dailymotion and the author of the clip, and is planning on including YouTube as well.

While you can argue free expression, it's no wonder that the BNVCA is on edge right now. The bureau recently went after a clothing shop in the Paris neighborhood of Belleville that was selling t-shirts that reproduced Nazi slogans that targeted Jews in Poland. The same area was host to violence between Jewish and African youths last June that left a 17-year-old Jewish boy seriously hurt. [Source: Edmonton Journal]
