The Worst Gadgets of All Time 6
Motorola ROKR E1
This attempt at "an iTunes integrated phone" was Apple's first brush with the cell phone market -- a very distant precursor to the iPhone, without anything that makes the iPhone great. It was perhaps Apple's most colossal miscalculation to date (though, it should be noted, more a case of mismanagement than poor design -- the actual phone and software design came courtesy of Motorola). While the iTunes compatibility was the selling point for this grossly overmarketed flop, even something as simple as listening to music was problematic: while playing to a song, all other functions on the phone would become sluggish. Loading the maximum 100 songs onto this device took up more time than watching an episode of Lost (including commercials), and the interface was to iPod what Hot Pockets are to a gourmet meal.

I had this phone and I loved it at the time, when it was new. I didnt have an MP3 player and the 100 song limit was enough for me. I would rotate old songs out as a new one would come along. I loved the colors that would flash when a call would be received. This made it very easy to find in my dark purses. But I understand that I may have been a dinosaur when it comes to gadgets such as this.

i had this phone too and LOVED it! it has great sound through the actual phone speakers and through headphones. the lights were cool too. there was one down side, after about six months, you weren't able to change out your ringtones. this was a manfac. defect. In a course of 1.5 years with the phone i had it swiched out three time for that reason. on the third phone after about a year the itunes app stop working all together!!! i was crushed! even though i wasnt using the phone any more i would have kept as an mp3 player, i like said before the sound was GREAT! also, the upload was VERY SLOW, thats the only thing i dislike about my phone.
