The Worst Gadgets of All Time 14

Salton Beyond 'Smart' Appliances
At first glance, an 'Internet-connected' appliance sounds kind of newfangled and somehow time-saving, but Salton's collection of 'smart' appliances never really took off. Sure, the microwave and breadmaker that could heat up and cook food by just swiping a barcode were cool enough, but the Salton Beyond Internet-connected coffee maker -- which let you program your coffee maker to make coffee over the Internet -- ranks right up there with the most useless and dumbest gadgets ever. Why? Because when was the last time you absolutely, positively had to program your coffee maker to make coffee while, say, finishing up your workday at the office? Can't you just wait the extra five minutes and make the coffee when you get home? That said, current-gen 'Internet-connected' appliances, such as the Jura F90 coffee maker, are a bit smarter, since at least they use the Internet to send messages to the manufacturer whenever there's a service issue that needs repairing.

-- I got a laugh out of that. Who lives five minutes away from home these days?

They're not saying it takes five minutes to get home. They're saying ONCE YOU GET HOME it takes five minutes to make coffee.
