Gamers Upstage Bob Dylan at Music Festival

Last weekend at the New American Music Union Festival in Pittsburgh, PA, Bob Dylan took to the stage and soon found himself competing with another 'band.' For reasons we can't quite comprehend, several boys had apparently set up a pretty serious gaming rig less than 50 yards from Dylan's stage. According to the New York Daily News, the troublemakers jammed out to a boisterous game of 'Rock Band' in the middle of the show. While Dylan's classic 'Tangled Up in Blue' is featured on the upcoming sequel, 'Rock Band 2,' we doubt Dylan was too pleased when his voice was drowned out by a video game. [From: NY Daily News]

LITTLE BRATS GOT NO RESPECT , BUT WHY WAS BOB PERFORMING AT THE "NEW MUSIC UNION?
Alex0958Aug 13th 2008 10:46PM
Love him or hate him, anyone with a well-rounded knowledge of music knows that the contributions of Bob Dylan to the music industry and to American culture are enormous. To disrespect him as he was in Pittsburgh is just another sad example of the punk attitude of far too many youth who foolishly and selfishly think they've got the world all figured out! The current generation of youth, like all that have come before it, has plenty of great members in it. However, those who live outside the bounds of acceptability seem worse than ever before, and the major reason (I believe) is a breakdown in social values mostly due to excessive liberalism, so-called political correctness, and entirely too little enforcement of discipline by parents and other traditional authority figures such as teachers. A return to more conservative, traditional values is long over due ... for the good of everyone ... including the know-it-all, undisciplined, disrespectful brats who haven't had enough *$$ beatings while growing up!

I found myself in a agreement with your comments but then realized you brought up politics. They are a goog thing but just like everyone else you have your own beliefs, but really bringing it up in a story like this and puting blame on liberalism. Have you ever looked the word up in a dictionary, and I ask you how many years have conservitives ran the country since the 1980's. I am an Independant thinker and belong to no party so when I say keep politics out of this story you should not get offended. Kids today are going to grow up with your mentality and not understand the writings and music of Bob Dylan. I will give you credit, your words spoke the truth overall, but please don't think so much like a Politican. Just listen to the music in life and relax. Also in response to they think they have the world figured out, Dosn't every generation think that way in their youth. Sure you might have been Alex P keaton as a kid, but most kids today try thier best in this crazy backwords world that our leaders created for them. I'm sure most of this country called Bob Dylan a punk too. Kids today are raising themselves because thier parents arn't there. It might be a result of liberals and conservatives fussing and fighting since time began, and forcing many parents to work more than one job. I just wish on the issue of politics "The times are a changin" but sadly when you throw political terms in a story about disrespecting others I know they are not.

While I agree with you, I do not think it is a matter of lack of *$$ beatings while growing up, the problem relies on lack of education (Therefore, ignorance)

Does no one else here see the irony in all this? Bob Dylan, part of that big 60's "F* the Establishment" youth culture, rebelling against their curmudgeonly elders, has now reached the age of being an established (and obviously curmudgeonly, based on his reaction) elder musician, only to be slighted by the newest round of "F* the Establishment" youth culture.
I guess it's true that what goes around, comes around. The big question here is, "How does it feel," Bob? So the important lesson here, for all concerned, is to remember that how you do unto others today, may be how others do unto you forty years from now.

What is so F* the Establishment about playing video games while being outside in a summer music festival?

What does liberalism have to do with raising our children to be bright, respectful, kind, caring individuals. I am pro-choice, believe that faith does not belong in school (churches, synagoges and the like are the places with people trained to teach such subject material not public schools) and a single mother for over 12 years. My children were raised to be respectful of others, kind, color and faith blind. My children do not care what race you are or what faith you practice if you are funny, smart, and a good person they will like you. That has nothing to do with politics, religion or family values. I also believe that The generation of parents today are horrible parents. They are so far up their childrens butts that the kids cannot breath unfortunately they are not up there for the right reasons. Manners, education, self-respect and respect for others is not what is being taught to kids these days by their parents. What they are learning is that mommy and daddy will get them out of any trouble no matter what, with no penalty or punishment for their actions, that they are perfect and everyone else is wrong, they make no mistakes, and everyone should applaud everytime they blow their nose in a tissue like they just cured cancer.
Quite frankly the majority of kids today make me so angry that the parents really should be slapped because they have done a disservice to their own children and the rest of the world in creating self-centered, rude people instead of good productive citizens.

Hey Wes, You sound so good, you extra intelligent independent thinker!
The guy nailed it. I don't mean to offend you, especially if you are a SUV driving, Al Gore loving, never disciplining and letting your 8 year old girl run the show kind of guy,but if you could open your mind and see the value of what your earth brother said, it boasts of some quiet and non PC wisdom.
Listen to the words of dylans songs and maybe you'll get!
