Were Parts of the Olympics Opening Ceremonies Faked?

The sequence was deemed to have been "prohibitive to have tried to film it live," and so the 55-seconds of the footsteps spanning the city were done digitally. In the American broadcast, NBC did indeed indicate that particular sequence was done digitally, but other broadcasters worldwide apparently did not, leading to the controversy. So, good on NBC for that, but it too is being called out for some digital hijinx, which consisted of re-arranging the sequence of the parade of nations and omitting some entirely (apparently the US team came out earlier than was shown on the broadcast).
Both of these supposed controversies seem a bit silly to us. Given all the pressure and fears leading up to the games, we're just glad things went off without a hitch. [Source: The Telegraph, and The LA Times]

I think the opening ceremony was the best that I have ever seen. Who cares how it was done as long as it didn't hurt anyone. It was definitely awesome!!!!!!

The ceremonies were magnificent. All 30,000 plus people of China worked hard and practiced. The country had a great Earthquake and still pulled off the most magnificent show I had ever watched. Let it be techno, let it be fake (I think Not). China thank you for a wonderful show of carrying on above and beyond your call of a responsibility that you took on before your devastion. I have a high respect for you and your people (family). You all pulled together for yourselves and still followed through with your responsibilities on time with the most magnificent show in the world.

So what? Just to have 2000 plus drummers all costumed, equipped and synchronized was an opening spectacle in itself. I loved the footsteps, whether digital or otherwise. Thanks, China!

The Chinese put on the most spectacular openeing ceremonies ever! Who cares about this dumb observation. Dont the media and television give us things how they want to anyway? Dont mare it, let it be. I feel sorry for anyone who has to design an opening ceremony from hence. your insurmountable task will be a challenge to say the least,
shay shay,
GO TEAM USA

On Friday night I watched the opening ceremonies on NBC; I even set my VCR to record. What little I saw of them was most spectacular, but NBC chose to interrupt the ceremonies about every six minutes. They always went to commercials before the current presentation was over and returned after the next presentation was well in progress. No other station was broadcasting the ceremonies. I finally gave up, shut the VCR off, asnd rewound the tape. These are the first opening ceremonies in more than 15 years that I have not recorded.

This was so beautiful and amazing. Their educated populace designed the 8th wonder of the world. Only thing I don't like about the filming by
American filmers is the fact they concentrate so on the athletes from the
USA. Even during the parade, the cameras kept coming back to the US
teams. I wanted every country to be filmed while they were marching.

The opening was the best ever. I've seen alot of them and nothing compares. It will be very interesting to see what we come up with when we are the host. I'm not sure we could fine enough people that would drop their cell phones long enough to even do someting like what those people did. Plus the crying about the heat and wanting something out of it besides just the experience. We have to many Paris Hilton's in our country that think they should get paid just for showing up at the party. I love our country but I think we need to look around long and hard at other countries and tighten up our youth, Educate them more and spoil them less. Just a thought.

Hey ronbolama,
You are delusional yourself!!!!!!
Look in your own back yard! Every country has problems.
China is so polluted from manufacturing everyone else's goods. If the US were to produce the goods that China does we wouldn't be able to breath here either. But then again you wouldn't personally do any hard labor, now would you? You would pawn it off to a Mexican or Latino instead then complain that you have no work. I was a victim of a child slavery right here in the USA but you don't see it happening here at home do you? When I was eleven years old, I had to work every day after school in my family's business. I had to help my parents out with their business in order for us as a family to get by. Sure I rather be out playing but that is what I had to do back then. Even children younger than eleven start working with their families who own farms across America- Is that not a crime? I think many American men are so lazy compared to other countries like China. I don't think it is possible for the USA to eject a new building as fast as China can. Here... quite often you hire a contractor and your lucky if he shows up the next day. Then when he is finally done, you must pick up his cigarette butts and clean up after him when it should go with the dude's job. Hello????? While in China, I saw three men paint a tennis court in two hours, two coats with just long handled rollers- two painted and one poured. One time while shopping, a 4th grade school was on an outing crossing the street. There were two teachers and a line of children following in between. The line of children never seemed to end but they were all dressed so adorable and tidy. Some of the girls had on dresses and cute little shoes while the boys wore pants that covered their behind, and some even wore little white shirts and ties. The children that were not so dressed up were very presentable. This is how the children dress on a day to day basis. Plus none of them were acting up.Many of the younger children who start working early do so to help provide food, clothing, and shelter for the family, not all children are out working while the parents sit home and sip tea- the entire family works hard. Granted there are some terrible situations in regards to child slavery but like I said look in your own back yard as well.
Most of our American soldiers know what hard work is, and how to be a team player. I Think all men should at least be trained like that at an early age if that is what it takes to make the world a better place... learn a little respect for our fellow man, family values, and other countries that are trying to unite!
The people of China live longer there than we do here because they eat fresh healthy food compared to what we eat. They walk plenty, and meditate more. The dog "Ruff"on the menu at some restaurants is not eaten by all Chinese. Just like the pig "Oink"is not eaten by all Americans. They mostly eat fish, and carry around green tea as if it was water (I don't know what the difference is between any animal as far as eating goes but I personally would not eat a dog or deer!) China is more family oriented, respectful toward their elders, and enjoy joining each other at meal times. They work long hard days. They take naps during the day on their long breaks, even some of the government employees shut down during the day for long breaks. This helps them stay focused and work harder. If people have not spent any time in China - they should not talk a bunch of BS! Fake or not it is a SHOW Better than that Janet Jackson's Breast that the other guy singer said was an accident! China's show was awesome!!! No other country even the US will ever top that! Just like no one will ever Top Elvis.
I am very proud of China. I highly recommend anyone to take a few weeks or longer vacation there! I have visited places there where no outsider has ever been, and I have visited some big cities including the tourist areas. I enjoyed walking the streets late at night to go shopping while police were standing in numerous places on patrol. One nut went crazy and killed someone at the games that was a terrible thing; that could happen any place you go even in your own home in the USA.
BTW....We have many more nuts here including our Politicians, and the people who are reporting such personal affairs!
Peace

This was China's time to SHINE, to show they have 'arrived', that progress is being made politically (with much more work to do of course)
Let China bask in its limelight. They are very proud people that have worked hard to get this opportunity. What I'd like to know is why so hard on the Chinese Opening Ceremony? Jealousy for an incredible job well done? Nobody else has seemed to pull off such a spectacular Opening Ceremony before and it may be a long time (if ever) that another country tops them. So maybe they enhanced a photo or had a pretty little girl lip-synch? (I feel sorry for the little girl that actually sang and was deemed not 'pretty enough' That was so UNFAIR).
Did China set the bar too high for other countries to compete in the Opening Ceremony catagory? My guess is yes.
