I do not want this.
Misconceptions about LA. Interesting read, but kinda whiney. http://t.co/jEqHw3ts
The people responsible for this tremendous geographical oversight have been sacked.

On the PC front you are failing to mention that you are not limited to Vista. Got get a flavor of Linux!
PC != Vista

PC people are the angry combative ones....
Well yeah, cos we've had to stomach all the patronising and blind ignorant comments from the Mac crowd and put up with their salivating worship (read: kissing the ass that kicks you) of Steve "do i even care that this waste of skin and polar neck jerseys exists" Jobs. What you do notice is how heavily outweighed the Mac to PC comment ratio's are - on most forums/comments i've read on this topic.
And its the Mac people making all the noise.....thats cos the PC boys and girls have got their heads down running things as opposed to the Mac glam people fiddling with their iTunes front end - for the 100th time today - no! no extra knobs, sliders or buttons will suddenly appear!!
I will buy a Mac - the day their "patronising campaign" to all nasty non-mac people stops making me emit projectile vomit at the mention of the words Mac, Apple or Jobs. boo hoo!!
While this Us vs Them thing exists (mainly fuelled by Apple) we're not going anywhere very fast.

In how many ways should a $3,000 laptop (Mac) be inferior to an $800 laptop (all the others)? ZERO. While the 17" MacBook Pro is loaded with features of form (appearance), it's lacking in the area of function. The MacBook Pro is replete with deficiencies, inherent vices, intentionally poor design, shoddy workmanship, lack of QA and -- despite knowledge of all these -- Apple's decision to go into production anyway. Glad they're not in the medical field. At any rate, it's a simple business decision -- it's competitive function I need from a computer, not a status symbol.

You didn't ask the right question in your poll. The correct question should have been:
Would you rather purchase a Mac or a PC with Vista on it.
Then I would have chosen the Mac. Luckily (for MS) I can still get new PCs with XP Pro on them.
Unlike my less informed friends who come crying to me because their new Vista machines are hard to use and don't like them (my friends).

It won't matter a thousand years from now, PC will always be the best choice. Mac has always sucked. That commercial where MAC tries to make like the nerd charactor is a representation of PC, please, that jackass charactor that MAC has as their representative is a nerd, also. That particular nerd things he's no longer a nerd because he was in two movies with what has now become two women who are whores & drug addicts. And if he thinks he's still not a nerd because Drew Barrymore is sniffing around his ass, please, she's a recovered drug addict & alcoholic, herself. Get a grip, MAC! Try chosing a really great guy to represent your MAC the next time. Even though that in itself still wouldn't help your cause. PC forever!

I am a tech specialist and own both a Mac (iMac) and a PC laptop (Toshiba). To this day I simply cannot understand why anyone in their right mind would willingly put up with the unstable, medicre environment that is Windows. Get a Mac- and smile!

Tech specialist, hey? tell me, what certifications do you have?
KyleAug 29th 2008 3:13PM
Honestly...get a damn mac.
I bought a notebook from HP. 4 gigs of ram, 320 gig hard drive, and the 64-bit os. The P.O.S. failed on me about a month of having it. I sent it back to HP...they said they would have it done in a week...but Noooo...got extended to a month. Now I dont have a laptop for college. Im waiting for it...and again...it got extended to a whole extra month!! Hard drive and motherboard fried...and I gave up.
I went out...got a mac...and absolutely LOVE it. So easy, so many better features...and it looks DAMN good. love it..

i have to say i preffer linux since theres such a variety of versions.it usually runs faster and why would most servers run linux if it wasnt good or dependable. ihate apple and their ipod i fone junk that can only work easily with one computer.apple is just a mass produced overpriced hip slick and cool proprietary linux. both us unix. buy a pc and run a dual boot and never worry about a thing and save alot of money
AdvancedComputingSep 17th 2008 1:51PM
"I am a tech specialist” That said it all! LMAO! Another MAC freak trying to fake as a PC user just like in the commercial. If you truly want to learn about advance computing get a PC. If you are a musician or graphic type of person you might chose to use Mac coz a few software that made only for mac, but most of them are available in PC.
JamesSep 18th 2008 3:25PM
All of these operating systems suck. If you combined the gaming, and speed quality of the mac with the complexity and usability of Microsoft then you would have something! But all of them have their week points and strong points so its pointless to argue the issue because there is no superior.

I've been on PC for almost all my life, minus the Macs in elementary and middle school. There have been times that the PCs I've had needed to be scrapped (Kazaa was the cause twice). But overall, PCs have held their own. The fact that you can build it from scratch with SO many different options is great for some.
Macs are considered the industry standard in some cases; Pro Tools is a requirement for many auido engineers, but so is Adobe Audition. Many film editors work on Macs using Final Cut Pro. Yet you will also see in job requirements that you must know Mac and PC both.
I've had my Vaio laptop for 3 years now, and it has been my sole computer--no desktop, just this laptop. 512MB RAM too--which I will admit has recently gotten to be excruciating--and that was just right for the longest time.
I feel that the choices for Mac vs PC are easy to spot. Mac's go for sleek and sexy design. PC's sometimes go that way, but never hit the contemporary, modern benchmark. PC's are exceptionally customizable and always can be found at a very reasonable price. Mac's are proprietary, as there's only MAC stuff, and they are considered overpriced. PC's domniate the market, but Mac's are catching up. PC's get more viruses (I haven't had any since Kazaa however), but Mac's will get theirs once more people own them. Some programs are only available for Macs, others just for PC.
It all depends on what you do, what you want to use your computer for, if you want it to be portable, how much you'll use it, if you need to upgrade frequently, etc. Choosing a computer is VERY involved because of all the choices out there.
What irks me are those who just state "PC FTW!!!" or "MACS RULE!!!". Those are the people that give BOTH sides the bad reputations or the poor consumer-circulated PR. Without backing, those comments are useless and annoying from either side.
All that being said, I'm considering moving to Mac because I'm getting into the audio/video industry and I want to be able to use Pro Tools since it's so popular. My main hangups are the price (Mac Pro's start off at 2,300 and dear GOD they can get up to 27,000) and whether my current files will all work on the Mac.
Side note: Mac Pro or iMac???

Here is a comparison of two screaming systems I configured to purchase on both the Dell and Apple sites:
http://configure.us.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?oc=dxdwct4&c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&kc=features~winxp_inspndt
http://store.apple.com/us/configure/MA970LL/A?mco=NzQ3Njkz
I'm sure these links will expire at some point.
The bottom line is that they both go for around $3500.
The question is how do the processors compare???
In the Dell: Intel® Core™2 Extreme QX6850 (8MB,3.0GHz, 1333FSB)
The Mac: 2.8GHZ Quad-Core Intel Xeon
In my case, for music production, how many instances of Guitar Rig can you have running at one time? How many processor hogging plug-ins can be loaded at once before the machine starts to beg for mercy?
Is there a concise guide anywhere that lays it all out in plain english?

It seems like it really just comes down to image.
