From starting to running programs without the freeze ups. On my PC I had so much trouble it was at time unbelievable because the PC laptop was not even a year old. I hate vista and I will not turn back from Mac, I had always heard that mac's were better, but they are expensive (at least for me they are) well I have figured out that by the time I bought my PC laptop and paid for all of the repairs, I could have bought a mac the first go around. I recommend anyone looking for a new computer to really check into a Mac. Go to your local apple store and tell them what you are looking for and they should be able to help you out. I know mine sure did!!!

Candace Blazek

Comments on Mac vs. PC 6

What I dont under stand is why we are being forced to go to vista when it is clearly worthless even companys are taking it out and going back to windows.Bill Gates is not going to force people to take this vista. He may find people will go to other comp.and different programs

Sue

Comments on Mac vs. PC 6

Although I can work in a cross platform environment, my platform of choice has been Macintosh ever since 1987. There are things I can do on my Mac that I've never been able to figure out how to do on a PC, although I'm told through a complex number of steps that some of them can be done. Must log off the Mac Mini and start up that XP box at work that can only dream of becoming a Mac.

Dave Kisor

Comments on Mac vs. PC 6

Amen, Mr. Kisor!

I work on a mac and also do a bit of system admin (UNIX and Linux--both stable operating systems). People bring me PCs inundated with spyware, viruses, trojans and other junk. Why don't schools teach basic care & feeding of the PC? Gotta have protection--Anti-Virus, Anti-Spyware and a Firewall--and you HAVE to keep them updated and RUN them REGULARLY.

I develop on a mac because I'd rather produce than fix things. As far as I know, the only way to screw up a mac is to drop it or take a baseball bat to it.

juju

Comments on Mac vs. PC 6

Wow, I still am amazed at how many simple people there are out there who believe that they are "forced" into purchasing Vista. This is the definition of an uneducated and near-sighted comment. If you purchase a vehicle that is a 2008 model, and that company has released a new engine in it that particular year, then you get the new engine with the vehicle. No one "forced " you to purchase the vehicle. Even better, you can still purchase a Windows XP set and WOW, install it yourself!

As for the comment about a Mac being the overall "less-expensive" purchase, this is just downright ignorant. A Mac has and will always be far more expensive to own that an PC, plain and simple. For instance, I just purchased a Vostro 410 from Dell that has a Q6600 processor, and a 22 inch widescreen monitor, 250gb hard drive, and 128mb video car with Dual DVI capability and a DVD burner for $759. After the computer got here I purchased the Microstar motherboard that is capable of holding 16gb of ram with a 64 bit OS, for $218, and then purchased the 16gb of ram from Kingston.com for $828 dollars. And since I already have a copy of Vista Ultimate, it came with the x64 version of it. Installed, wallah! I now have a computer that will absolutely smoke any computer built by Mac that hovers in the price range of $15000 or more, all built for $2000. Now, what was that about a Mac being overall the less expensive and better performing purchase?

Gerald

Comments on Mac vs. PC 6

Wow, I still am amazed at how many simple people there are out there
who believe that they are "forced" into purchasing Vista. All you get is Vista, now it is true that you can install XP into your computer but for a price of about $100. On top of that, if you are not a computer wiz, it is not so simple to install XP on a PC that already has Vista installed on it. You need to follow procedures to the bone when down grading and is not even worth anybodys time if they are not familar with computers. Now as far as the comment of price. The other person was stating that with as much problems that they had with the PC and taking it in for repairs, it ends up costing just as much as buying a MAC that has less problems.... NOT everybody is proficient with computers that they can fix their own problems.

Rojelio

Comments on Mac vs. PC 6

If Mac had its way, No poor person on the planet would be allowed to own a computer, and I love that the same people who would condemn an OS that they feel “forced into” are eager to pay 400$+ for a 30gb "portable" hard drive..
Both company’s have issues, and until the market is penetrated by viable competition to both brands they will continue to stifle us with either inferior or incomplete products or insanely high priced fashion devices.
In the past, it could have been said Macs cost more because they have a higher quality build, and better parts.
Well, now that Macs have Intel chips Nvidia graphics and Samsung monitors why on earth is a Mac vs. pc comparable model 30-60% higher in cost? Is it so you can look “cool” in the library? Or so when your swigging down your starbucks latte with your Gucci sunglasses people will look at your Mac and know you must be a good person! Or is it for when you talk to your friends you can talk down to them for being lowly PC users, because you have a MAC!
It’s an operating system not an extension of who you are..

Seamus

Comments on Mac vs. PC 6

Its the same of our economy, the same reason we buy diamonds instead of other jewelry. Diamonds were considered crapy jewels before the turn of the century. It wasn't till people in hollywood started to wear them because DaBeer's was trying to advertise the jewel that people wanted them when they saw their favorite actor/actress wear it, then the price sky rocketed to 300% of what they are worth. Same goes with coffee "starbuck" ..so on so forth. Now its over priced computers. It all goes back to prefrence and liek you said, what looks cool.

I like both PC's and MAC's but its because I know how to work them instead of them working me. I will also say, PC's are best for gaming and MAC's are good for video and audio editing.

Rojelio

Comments on Mac vs. PC 6

The VISTA OS drove me to a MACBook. Now I am so much happier and the machine does not crash. I run win xp.And if you read microsofts home page and also it was on tv that next year all microsoft is only going to suport there vista program and windows up dates will stop or be very limited with no security patches. So thay are forceing us to change to apple or mac or what ever.So thay are doing what that so called protecting all of us with the out of line and poorly managed HOMELAND SECURITY. Is controlling All we do.To bad thay are watching the 0nes thay should be watching. It just like the tv change .Go on to 60 min and see what Rick Springstine had to say about how the gov is trying to controll all we do.Man votes dont even matter anymore Remember when thay called the election and florida was still voting.

Sue

Comments on Mac vs. PC 6

Well there is a new version of Windows coming out called Windows 7. I can't wait to see this new version.(Out in 2009) I am hoping this will be the answer like XP was the answer to Windows ME editon back in the days. Grant it, I doubt it will allow any backwards compatability. So more than likely, you will be SOL with those ol' skool printers and palm pilots and so on. Just think of it as building character. :-)

Rojelio

Comments on Mac vs. PC 6

I think that you need to revisit your statement that says that Macs are more expensive than PCs. Mac hardware has been is in excess of 95% identical to its PC counterparts since 1996. The only significant differences have been in these areas:

1. The CPU (which is now identical to its PC counterparts)
2. A few ASICs created by Apple (long since gone when Apple
moved to Intel Processors)
3. BIOS is still on PC logic boards.
Intel Macs use EFI. only 64-bit versions of Windows XP/Vista
and Windows Server 2003+ and some LinUX versions
support EFI on PCs.

When you compare Macs to PCs you need to compare a Mac to an
identically configured PC:

- Intel Core2 Duo T5600, T7200, T8300, T9300 processors with identical
FSB, L2 Cache.
- NVIDIA GeForce 8600MCT graphics card with 512MB
- built in web camera (iSight is on a MacBook Pro)
- On Laptops, same size LCD Displays with support for 1440x900 native
on a 15.5 inch display and support for 1920x1200 native on a 17 inch.

- same number of USB Ports
- same number of Firewire 400 and FireWire 800 ports
- DVI support
- Gigabit Ethernet
- 802.11n (draft)
- Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR

A comparable Dell Studio 15 costs $1600.
