Though they've come down in price in recent years, Macs have always been more expensive – and, as a whole, they continue to be. You can get Windows-based PC desktops and netbooks for as little as $300 (and PC laptops for as little as $450), but the least expensive Mac Mini will run you $599 and the least expensive iMac is $1199. The entry-level MacBook laptop costs $999 and the entry-level MacBook Pro is $1199.
It's safe to say that in the premium ultraportable category, Macs are actually a bit more affordable -- the MacBook Air starts at $1499, which is a few Benjamins less than the similarly petite and powerful Lenovo x301 that starts at about $1,785. Though many affordable peripherals for PCs will now work with Macs as well, many Mac-specific, Mac-made extras – whether it's an Ethernet or power adapter for your MacBook Air or the Mac-made wireless Bluetooth keyboard and mouse – still cost a small premium.

I've had both PC & MAC. MAC is made Better if you mean better is that MAC has it's own standard (they make "ALL" their own STUFF). But, You can get get Just as good or better made PC. It just means you'll have to learn what's out there.
AS FAR AS GAMING GOES: SORRY MAC - THE PC IS THE ONLY WAY TO GO !!!!! ALL AND I MEAN ALL. the GOOD STUFF IS FOR THE PC !!!! IT CAN TAKE YEARS (YES-YEARS) TO GET THE SAME GAMES ON THE MAC AS ON THE PC !!!!!
SO rember this!!! YES the MAC has ED. Programs, but the KIDS WANT GAMES !!!! IF THEY CAN'T USE THEIR COMPUTER FOR GAMING YOU"LL BE WASTING YOUR MONEY !!!

Only Apple Macs can run WIndows natively (via Boot Camp) or via fast virtualization (with Parallels Desktop and/or VMWare Fusion).
In case, you haven't figured it out yet, the Mac's ability to run WIndows coupled with WIndows PC's inability to run Mac OS X completely nullifies all of your software arguments, making the Mac the clear winner.
Macs are OS-unlimited. PCs are OS-limited.
Why limit yourself? Only with Mac do you get 2 or more personal computers for the price of one (can run Linux and other OSes, too).
Anyone who buys a PC today is making a mistake and needlessly limiting themselves.

You compared apple to oranges I must say. #1 the hardware in a MAC is the same "bulky" hardware that is in a PC..Absolutely no differences. Made in Korea & sassembled here. #2 MAC OS is LINUX (X) not anthing special, this is why they boot up & shut down faster but try to get help for a Linux. #3 Gateway & e machine are the only 2 PC's I say do not buy..just like buying stuff @ Best Buy you are getting stuff built on a Monday..so comparing a MAC to a Gateway as if they are the best is irresponsible. Also how much does it cost a customer to removed MAC viruses, I know 2-3 times more than I charge a PC customer..Also ask a Agent @ a MAC store how long you should expect your unit to last..they will tell you 2 years. I say buy a PC in fact buy 2 and if you want cute buy the Pink one.

if this is for students you might want to note that all companies have edu discounts. Apple knocks $100 for edu on the ibook for example. You also get a free ipod touch with any mac purchase if you are an edu customer until september.

Macs are definitely the way to go. They're built better, can run both mac and windows apps, and if you purchase apple care (for only like $169) then you won't have to worry about anything for 3 years. Well worth the money.

This is where the apple argument falls apart. Don't get me wrong--they are great machines and especially good for those who want to spend less time learning the computer, but I can't justify a $500 premium for a flashier more user friendly desktop for less in terms of power than I could get through a generic PC.
As for those that point out that the OSX software cannot be run on a PC I think it's only fair to note that this the the fault of apple--not Acer or whoever is manufacturing your PC. Apple maintains a hardware/software monopoly because it makes them a great deal of money. Aside from Apple making money, there isn't anything special about the parts they are similar to the same cheap components available in PC's.

But if speed and a mac-esque desktop are what you're looking for but you're afraid of the steep price tag (and not afraid to tinker) then you should check into buying a normal PC and then dual booting Windows with Linux which is both fast and almost infinitely customizable.

I think the PC is alot more affordable because there programing are cheap and crapy and a little good but not as good as mac. Thats why Macs are so exspensive is because their not as cheaply made as the PC and there programing is acctuetly good.
