Verizon Bans Libshitz Family From Using Last Name in E-Mail Address
What's in a name? For most, it's just a jumble of letters. Some people have a word or two mixed in, and a rare few have words in their names that can't be said in polite conversation. That's the problem faced by Dr. Herman I. Libshitz, a retired Chestertown, Maryland radiologist who recently was given quite the run-around by Verizon when trying to upgrade his aging dial-up connection to something a little faster. There's a certain word contained within the good doctor's last name (Can you find it?) that Verizon doesn't permit in its e-mail addresses. So, when Herman was told he would need to pick another name to set up the account, he told them to shove their DSL where the sun don't shine and went back to dial-up.

Strange names of friends: Mandy Gay Lust, she did get a licence plate that said LUST... Knew an MD in NY last name Doctor... he was Doctor Doctor back when they used the over head hospital pager... Once had a broker named Dick Weiner

Libshitz and Lipshitz are pretty common last names among Jews and Germans. I bet Verizon doesn't have a prob accepting payment from these names.

I think all these comments about people's names are offensive!

Surely...."Tossmysalad" is NOT his name....you lie like a rug!

Not to be rude or anything and I know that's his name and he should be proud but don't you think the question at verizon is: well if his libschitz then what does his ass do? Sorry to anyone that is offended but I was just trying to make a point.

Does anyone remember when a bunch of whackos complained about the town of Fishkill, NY? It wasn't until the origin of the name was explained to them that they stopped there idiocy.

Sarah Levine Simon ... you forgot your SS# hon. You gave them (the boggie man) everything else! Now, go out and buy yourself a gun!

I'll bet Verizon was delighted to accept -- and cash -- the checks this family sent in to pay their phone bill every month. I'd be looking for a new provider ASAP if it were me!

Years ago, a family moved from the South Pacific area to the US and opened a restaurant and used the family name. A company sued, and won, saying that their family name couldn’t be used. The company….SONY. What would happen if some one was named VERISON (VERIZON)

This dialogue regarding names made me wonder the modern day fate of a high school classmate of mine who had a rather tragic name. With a surname like "Cox", and parents so "uninformed" and/or so incredibly thoughless to give their son a certain "H" name that generates the nickname "Harry", the Internet world must be a living hell for my old school pal.
