I can only really speak on behalf of Resident Evil, and though I disliked them (simply because they should((could)) have made it more horrifying), it's not half as bad as described here. I wouldn't recommend spending money on them, though.

Now, if you want a GOOD game to movie translation, Silent Hill is the one for you.
