There is no open wild west lands where Flicka can run free. That is called fantasy. Here in reality land horses are a species that are kept by humans for their beauty and usefulness since way, way, before the internet. People back in the day found hitching up a horse to a plow was more useful that hitching up the pregnant wife. The horse species in return were able to survive and not be hunted into extinction. Horses are a prey species in the natural world and are not extremely fertile, yet they have evolved speed in order to survive. Horses enjoy running. Humans maximize this and have created an industry for horses to run. The racing industry has found more cures and treatments for disease than any other form of investigation. Today in modern times there is no need for horses, they require too much land and food compared to machinery. Fewer people use horses for entertainment as riding because of gaming on the internet. So please step off your animal rights soap box and either buy a horse, train and support it for 18 years or nix your hand wringing.
