It takes a pair to open a business based on a simple idea. It takes a bigger set of stones to do it while ignoring copyright issues that land you in hot water with giant media companies. As the founders of YouTube, Hurley, Chen, and Karim allowed the masses to upload whatever they wanted, with some disclaimers. While they haven't exactly let piracy run rampant on their site, they've certainly benefited from it. NBC signed a deal with them after realizing the exposure the site could give to its shows, with many other media companies following suit. The popularity hasn't waned, and Google's $1.65 billion buyout is a pretty sweet reward for skating around the rules.
