Stereo Company Installs GPS, Causes $13K in Damage
After Brandon had taken his admittedly aging luxury sedan in for the install, he noticed that hot air was leaking in through his dashboard vents, even when the air conditioner was on. Several attempts were made by the shop to repair the problem, but no progress was made. In fact, it seemed that with every subsequent visit, Brandon found more and more wrong with the car. Brandon requested a refund, but upon noticing language that would relieve the Car Stereo Company of liability if the check were endorsed (sneaky bastards), decided not to cash the check just yet.
After consulting two different repair shops, a BMW specialist and a German car specialist, Brandon had an estimated $12,400 worth of repairs to be done.
Unfortunately, it appears as if there will be no happy ending to Brandon's troubles. First, Brandon tried to go through the shop's insurance company, to no avail. Then Brandon took them to small claims court, only to have the judge find in favor of the Car Stereo Company. Things don't look good, but we're still holding out hope that Brandon will find a favorable resolution to his problem. [Source: The Consumerist]

DIRECTTV installed a sat LNB on the side of my house. it kept going out of wack. i had them come out to check the problem. the first guy said he wasn't an installer and i had to cancel that appointment and reschedule. the next guy who was labled an expert said it was the wrong type of LNB, that was put up in the beginning. DIRECTTV charged me $20. for a trip call and said i should've purchased their "extemded warranty" for an additional $6.95 per month. if i didn't get their "EW" the trip charge would've been $79.00. when my sign up is up , i'm going to swith to DISH.

If you are a BMW owner, it's stated very clearly that any modification to the car by a non-authorized BMW dealer could result in damage. I have a BMW and checked into adding hands-free cell phone capability to my navigation system. Only a few phones are approved by BMW, mine isn't, and I was told in no uncertain terms that if I added a hands-free system to my car by anyone other than the BMW dealer, the navigation system could/would be damaged. While I sympathize with Brandon, he took the risk at his own cost. :(
