New Bags Let You Keep Your Laptop Inside at Airport Security Lines

This isn't just a minor inconvenience -- as a result of the increased security procedures, it is now suggested that you show up at least two hours before your stated departure... for domestic flights. The slow moving and nerve-wracking long lines have many travelers fuming and even choosing other modes of transport for shorter trips.
But the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is looking to soothe at least some of the pain involved with air travel. It has just okayed luggage and laptop case makers to start manufacturing X-ray friendly cases. The problem with older laptop bags is that they are often difficult to see through on an X-ray machine and are packed with accessories -- such as power adapters and mice -- that block security personnel's view. The new cases will vary in design from fold-down or detachable laptop-only sections on luggage to standalone foam sleeves without room for accessories. Since they'll provide a clear view of laptops for X-ray machines, these cases will be allowed through security without requiring that anything be taken out.
Luggage makers should start manufacturing the newly approved travel accessories shortly, and will no doubt be rushing them to market as-soon-as-possible. [Source: NY Times]

Honestly, does anyone feel more secure flying today than before? It's a joke. We still have people of the same intelligence as we did before but now they make more money and have job security and can, and do, make our flying experience more unpleasant.
Have a nice flight.

Every passenger should be given a Glock 23 w/subsonic frangible ammo. Anyone causes any problems, the passengers SOLVE the problems. End of problems. End of hassles w/air travel. All this "security" has cost us untold BILLIONS of dollars in lost productivity; i.e. the terrorists have already "won" to a great extent. And we should be taking as extreme as necessary "search for and destroy when find" approach to eliminating this vermin from the earth.

Steve ....
You aren't a nice person . Take 10 mins and think what
the average traveler puts up with . You walk through the
airlines ,the place is packed with people . Next you go
to the line to get yourself checked in , that line is extremely
long , you wait for 1hour or so , then you walk for the plane
and its late / cancelled , but you don't know that until you
get to your gate . So then you either wait longer ( because there's
not many planes flying ,less employees ) or you been cancelled
at the last minute , You see our point . I'm not complaining , I'm
explaining to you . Airlines doesnt want you to bring much but they
want to raise the cost , there's no drinks or knack , you should
only pay a less price .
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Companies want to charge you more and get less service ( food , etc ) .
Whatever the situation is .
I like to know why everything is so stressful , you wake up , the gas
prices ( worse than the stockmarket ) food is expensive , so then you
eat less (once a day ) . Prices are high , except for your paycheck .
Companies also want to hire you for less pay , they think you can
live off of $10.00 an hour , when you're a family , and you've your
responsiblity . Knowing you've to make more money than that .
What is this world coming too ????????//
Glad to hear they're going to start making laptop bags that are "airport screener friendly"! QUESTION on related subject: WHEN are suitcase makers going to make carry-on pieces that actually FIT in the "sizer" at the airport? If airlines are going to be picky about carryon size, then there should be something you can buy, to fit. My Pet Peave: if airlines adopt better procedures to guarantee NOT LOSING CHECKED BAGS, then the flying public would be less inclined to take so much CARRYON LUGGAGE with them. Who/Where can people legitimately "lobby" for better accountability by the airline industry?
Keeping your laptop with you, and avoiding the airport hassle is possible. A 3,000 mile trip in a Toyota Prius, getting 40 to 46 average mpg (I'm being ultra conservtive, I get 60 mpg on a good highway) costs me between $265US and $300US, and yes, it takes a little longer, and
the driving can be tiring, but it is fun and fabulous compared to
flying if you have the time. And if you have people who can make the trip with you, you save even more $$.
Sorry TSA, I happen to like my current laptop case and will not replace it for an "airport friendly" model. It's a Vera Bradley laptop case and has just enough room to hold my Dell Inspiron 1501 and it's charger. I hate taking the laptop out. Just one extra thing that you have to harp-hazardly cram back into it's case when you are done going through security. While I'm on the subject, I don't like taking off my shoes, either. Makes me feel weird, especially if I'm wearing sandals or flip flops and don't have socks on.
I would like to buy this new case.
