Charles Chambers, senior vice president of security for ACI-NA, says based on a back-of-the-envelope calculation, thinks the 12,000 per week prediction is plausible. He notes that the percentage of laptops lost is small when viewed in terms of the total number of passengers traveling. Only less than one half of one percent of the roughly 3.5 million business travelers flying each week would have to lose their laptops to reach the 12,000 number, he notes.

Jeremy Spencer

Comments on

The number 12,000 notebook computers lost each week (!) seems much too high. (You only have a certain amount of time to claim lost baggage. Then it can be disposed of, i.e. sold to these stores.) The buyers then sell the stuff in large stores. The stores are hit or miss; you never know what you can find. Some luggage is not even unpacked and is sold to customers site unseen for cheaper so that they don't have to handle it, shelve it, etc. Otherwise clothes are processes sort of like Goodwill. In other words, they are clean and it si similar to going to a consignment shop. Other stuff like electronics is just out on tables, piece after piece after piece.

DBinTenn

Comments on

Just another AOL jerk story. 12,000 ?? I purchased a 12.1" laptop and could not get the customer service to even respond and when they responded they said I should find a local laptop repair shop to help me at my own expense. I paid a lot of money for this laptop and has taken it in for repairs 4 times and finally dumped it. This is the most terrible manufacturer one can ever encounter. I bought it based on a recommendation by PC Magazine, so be careful when you read these recommendations. Walmart and a lot of other stores have stopped carrying this brand. For those considering LDC HDTV, forget about Olevia/Syntax brand. The product is terrible and the customer service is the definition of "chaos". I paid $1500.00 for the tv, but have lost sound/audio and pictures/video a couple of times in just a couple of years. They don't have authorized dealers, so you either have to ship it to them for repairs at your own expense or hope to find a handy person locally to fix it for you.

iynaroc02

Comments on

DO THEY AUCTION THEM OFF.
