Women With Long Finger Nails Complaining That iPhone Is Sexist

Every application within the iPhone was specifically designed to be accessible with your fingertip. The touchscreen detects your body's electrical charge when it comes in contact with the device, enabling it to determine where you pressed. As a result, fingernails (especially of the glued-on variety) tend to get in the way while using the iPhone, which is irritating some women profusely.
Some women are calling for the iPhone to be redesigned to include stylus-control capability (as on some Windows Mobile and Palm Treo devices), but we're more inclined to think that long fingernails went out in the early '90s and that modern devices require modern manicures -- like the meticulously pristine digits used in Apple's advertising. Why did that article even occupy space here? Why is the writer quoting the LA Times but doesn't include a direct link?. The one included, to the Delaware online, has this little pearl; "The iPhone fingernail problem doesn't appear to have hurt iPhone sales, particularly with women. The company has sold 6 million iPhones since June 2007. One of every three iPhones bought in March was by a woman, up from one in four in October, according to Nielsen Mobile."
Increased sales to women!, so, they are just quoting Erica Watson-Currie of Newport Beach, Calif. and she alone represents all LongFingerNail Women who may have, but maybe not, complain? fffffffck!

I love the iPhone for this feature. It deters my gf from snooping through my phone and seeing who I've called. Way better than password protecting!

There is a LOT wrong with this product and it has nothing to do with not being Bimbo-friendly. I have beautiful healthy, REAL nails that dont get in the way of my fingertips being able to reach a friggin screen.
Meanwhile, what about people with low blood pressure .... if there isn't enough heat to sense the phone won't respond! Is there a lawsuit in the works for discriminating against cold blooded people now too?
Ok, sorry for that tangent, but seriously...

I'd think that the fashion that makes women cultivate nails that hinder their ability to use tools is the sexist bit here, not the tools themselves.
Let's see, which is more sexist: (a) tool designed to be used by human hands or (b) social construct dictating that women should hands crippled. Tough choice.

I'm surprised that this article can get people into some fight.

The iphone also discriminates against the color blind by messing with their minds and creating massive confusion, and also the anti-technology crowd by trolling them.
We must all stand together and fund a project to create a perfect product that could not possibly ever discriminate against anyone or anything. And anyone who disagrees and chooses not to participate in this is an evil anti-progressive racist!

How do people with overly long nails type on computer keyboards then?
Best comment yet: use your knuckles.
If that doesn't work, use your toes. Or your tongue.
Need to make a long-distance call? Use Gene Simmons.
