Sleep Texting Is Like Sleepwalking, But for Text Messaging
We've all heard of sleepwalkers -- people who wander the house (or neighborhood) at night completely unaware of what they're up to. There have been claims of other similarly motivated sleepers, too, like dozing drivers or even snoozing cooks, but a new supposed disorder has some experts crying foul: sleep texting, the act of sending text messages while asleep and without remembering a thing in the morning. One such supposed sufferer is 24-year-old frequent texter Jessica Castillo, who, in the middle of the night, sent her boyfriend a text message that said "Baby u there? Need to tell somethin ...," then included a number of random digits and letters. The Italy, Texas resident sent a second similar message after the first one, but in the morning had zero knowledge of either. Others have reported similar incidents, leaving some to think that texting has become as innate an activity as walking to many.
Navigating through the menus on many phones to send a text is hardly an intuitive thing, and doing it without being awake is quite impressive, leaving many incredulous, thinking that people are simply lying to cover up for sending inadvertent messages at night.
It sounds believable enough to us, much more-so than some other claimed sleeping disorders, at least. [Source: TheStar.com]

I can believe it. I oftentimes find myself having small text conversations with people at night and never can remember when I woke up to do it. Though I don't think it's so much of being asleep while doing it, but more waking and then falling back asleep and losing all memory of the incidence.

I may have been a party to black-out drunken texting. Probably not the same as sleep texting.

It is not hard to believe. I have very vivid dreams almost nightly and often do very normal things, like eating and such, with absolutely no recollection of ever awakening. If text messaging is a normal behavior, it would not be strange to do it while sleeping . . .

i can believe it. i've been a sleep-walker since i was 3 years old, and i know that if the bathroom light is on when i wake up, i've been up to pee in the middle the of the night. beats wetting the bed, haha! i have sent email in my sleep. i wake up thinking about a dream where i emailed someone and had a really hard time with finding all the right letters on the keyboard, and when i check my sent mail, there sometimes is one. all correctly spelled, and not goofy or inappropriate. i have always been a vivid dreamer, maybe that's the connection.

So, you catch your husband in bed with another woman, and he says "Honey, this is not what it looks like; I'm asleep"! But my problem is that my Husband kicks and throws his arms around in his sleep and I have gotten accidently "hit" a few times. What can be done about it? No Doctor has ever given us an answer. WE only have one bed. Any suggestions from anyone out there? I'm suffering from sleep deprivision. From Michele in Texas

Just stopped taking Ambien after using it nightly for 8 months...that stuff will mess you up big time. I would send emails, talk on the phone, eat etc. and not remember any of it in the morning. Makes me wonder how many of these people are taking sleep meds and then doing these things. The number one rule: Put everything away (cell, computer etc.) take the med and get in bed....
Sweet dreams everyone...

Please this is crazy, she just wanted to make up an excuse to her boy- friend for sending this stupid text
DavidJun 18th 2008 2:46AM
I agree with the ones that say she was drunk and didn't want to admit it to her bf.
NaniKaiJun 18th 2008 2:54AM
If I do either, I need to be slapped and woke up...I do not want to be doing either...texting in my sleep or on this computer sending emails in my sleep. My Grandson recently told me that he was sleepwalking and I told him that he needs to tell someone about it, I don't know if he truly is but I am concerned about this since he doesn't live near me.

i believe this. i mean, people cook in there sleep so y couldnt they do something as simple as sending a text message? or maybe people say they cook in there sleep to hide a weight problem and text in their sleep to hide embarassing messages.

To Michele in Texas
about the first time you started accidently hitting him in the face, chest, back and arms maybe kick him once or twice while you're at it then he will " subconconsciously" learn" when he is sleeping that there is someone else in the bed with him. If all else fail invest into another bed (king size) or make him sleep on the couch after hitting his arm on the coffee table once or twice he'll smarten up. I know sometimes a persons ditet can really make for a restless sleep such as coffee and a high fat food with msg in it such as chinease. good luck with your wrestler lol
