Father's Day: Olympus Stylus 1030SW

Whether Dad is a coordinated outdoorsman or a hopeless klutz, he'll get a lot out of the Olympus Stylus 1030SW, which is purported to be the toughest cam around -- not only is it "virtually crush-proof," but it even works underwater. We put the camera through its paces -- dropped it on the ground (the hard streets of Los Angeles), and it bounced back, literally, without a scratch. We even stood on it with all of our weight -- no cracks at all! The camera works without a hitch under water -- up to 33-feet below the surface -- and has special picture modes designed for capturing sea life. It's just as useful in the winter, too, since it's freeze-proof (down to 14 degrees), which will come in handy during next year's ski season. Picture quality is solid (though low-light shots, as is the case with many small cameras, looked pretty grainy). Still, a great bang for the buck. And it can take plenty of bangs ... for your buck.
