Volkswagen to Produce Ultra-Efficient Car in 2010, Gets 235MPG

According to Motor Authority, the automaker will be producing said vehicle and pushing it to market as early as 2010, and while the minuscule engine will only take you to 75MPH, it will still seat two people -- one in front of the other, though -- and get around 235MPG. No word on a price or any of that good stuff, but we're hearing that they'll only be produced in "limited numbers" whenever they're launched. [Source: Motor Authority via EcoGeek, thanks Yossi]

Dammit! When will a car company come out with one of these cars that doesnt have a dealbreaker feature such as "one behind the other" seating or a $90,000 price tag or look like something from the Jetsons. If Volkswagon would engineer this to carry just ONE person and look somewhat normal it would suffice for 90% of american commuters

I totally agree my man, I would gladly accept limited range, or one seaters or whatever, if they looked like a regular damn car, and had ANY kind of interior space to speak of.

Other deal breakers: Price, limited production. With the price of fuel going to $4/gal and ever upward, this sort of fuel economy isn't ridiculous, its the future for all of us who commute long distances. Better start getting used to what a "real" car may soon look like.

Well at least it is a start and the technology is enough to call it bread away technology. No doubt if sales go well VW will refine the product to the point where most people will be happy with the result.
