Soldier's Cell Phone Calls Parents During Battle in Afghanistan
But a recent unintentional voicemail turns out to be a different story, as it was left by Jeff Nolan, a soldier deployed in Afghanistan whose phone dialed his parents' home on Oregon on its own accord -- in the middle of a gunfight.
The nearly three-minute voicemail captures the sound of extended automatic gunfire, a bit of muffled profanity, and ends with a disturbing yell: "Incoming RPG!" Not exactly what you would want to hear coming from your son's phone! Thankfully, Jeff survived the battle, and his family has since posted the voicemail on YouTube for all to hear. How scary. I wouldn't know whether to hang up or stay on the line. I wonder how long the parents waited to call him back. I will keep praying for your son and everyone else over there.

LauraMay 9th 2008 3:20PM
What's wrong with you? This man is fighting for your right to be so rude, and his family is sacrificing right along with him. It doesn't matter if you or I or anyone else agree with his choice to be there or not, what matters is that everyone of those men and women and their families have our prayers and support. Without these "murders" that you so call them, you would have no freedom to say such a thoughtless comment. So, if all you can do is sit back on your condecending butt and criticize, maybe you should just be quiet?

If you cant stand behind the troops, please do the rest of the world a favor and go stand in front of them.
Just try to claim your 1st Amendmant rights in another country. Let me know how that works for ya!
RebeccaMay 11th 2008 4:54PM
wait, sound of death? I thought their son survived the battle? ?:o
Whether you agree with the war or not, you should still show support for the troops who are out there fighting for our freedom
NancyMay 10th 2008 10:09PM

Too bad it didn't accidently dial John McCain. Then he could hear for himself what he wants to put us under in the next 100 years. stupid arse of a "Man"
RTMay 9th 2008 4:03PM
Are you kidding me??
John McCain doesn't understand what war is??
What rock did you crawl out from under??
LMCMay 9th 2008 6:05PM
I'm just curioushow you don't think McCain knows anything about war. He was a POW in Vietnem for 5 years. He had the opportunity to be released because his father was in Congress but refused to leave his men. Know your facts before you open your mouth,
DebbieMay 10th 2008 9:21PM
I don't understand how you could be so dense!!! You DO realize that we still have a base in Germany and it has been there since that war right. There are some instances that we need to maintain a presence to help preserve the peace. My husband is one of those soldiers who is fighting for our freedom and he also believes that a permanent base over there will be needed. Obviously you don't understand or won't try to understand how military strategy works.
KMay 11th 2008 1:04AM
WOW, I hope you don't vote in the elections :(
McCain doesn't know what war is like?????????? Do you really want to ask a POW if he has ever heard gun fire like this? I mean give me a break, its not like he was a POW for a few months...he was for YEARS!
Know wonder we end up with screwballs in office...people like you don't bother educating yourselves about the candidates.
christineMay 9th 2008 3:13PM
when i said "God Bless you all" I meant everyone other than the person who posted his/her ignorant comment before mine. "pharaohmc" should be thankful to be able to post those types of comments without fear of being sought and shot for his/her comments. Long live the courageous warriors of the United States of America.(no matter what cause is being fought)
HalMay 10th 2008 9:40PM
McCain knows exactly the importance of war and its impact on our economy. We need a 100 years of war and a draft as an component for our economy. Perhaps with enough Republican support we can even privatize our military to Black Water after all they are the real heroes in this war and the only outfit who is able to effectively win the war on terror. McCain understand the importance of Black Water and privatizing for a stronger America. So stop complaining except the outcome.
