eBay Buyer Leaves Neutral Feedback, Gets Sued for $10,000 by Seller
A few months back eBay made the controversial decision to remove the ability for sellers to leave negative feedback about buyers. The site said it got too many complaints and decided that the system wasn't worth the trouble. So, with that ability gone, when a seller of some collectible coins felt jilted by a less than positive review from a buyer, he did the purely logical thing, which was to sued said buyer for $10,000.Steve Shellhorn was the buyer in this transaction and didn't like the packaging job done by the seller. When he received the package, he found that many of the coins were unprotected in an envelope. So, when the seller requested feedback, Shellhorn left him a less than complementary, but still not negative, report. The seller responded with the lawsuit, which was ultimately tossed out of court, but only after Shellhorn had to pay $500 for an attorney. That's the kind of auction fee that nobody needs. On ebay feedback:
Retaliation -- BIG problem. No one--neither buyer nor seller--can be honest with that system in place. My thought was always so simple: mutual feedback or nothing. Meaning, eliminate all the variables of who-leaves-feedback-first, what did they say, etc.... Simply replace that with 1) seller leaves feedback at any time, 2) buyer leaves feedback at any time, 3) when and only when BOTH have left feedback do the feedback results post! Simple! So, whether simple feedback (pos/neu/neg + comments) or complex (stars ratings on shipping, product, etc).... nothing's shown live till both parties leave feedback (or hopefullly an option to "decline feedback for this transaction")....

Ebay needs to allow seller to leave negative comments. I am an Ebay user of 10 years with over 6000 positives and 2 negatives, both negatives when I was the buyer because I received a broken item even though I insured it and was refused a claim (the seller didnt buy the insurance even though I paid for it and the seller made it mandatory to buy) and the other seller sent me the entirely wrong item.
As a seller I left Ebay 2 years ago with the fee hikes they implemented at that time simply because the only one making any money on EBay is Ebay! But the lack of being able to leave a buyer a negative just protects fraud on Ebay itself.
Over the years I have seen just as much buyer fraud as there are horror stories of seller fraud the only difference being that no one ever bothers to talk about buyer fraud.
I have had buyers dispute claims through Pay Pal even though they emailed me to confirm receiving the package and everything being fine. When asked why they disputed the charge I have gotten the reply simply because they could! It has been YEARS since I have ever shipped a package and not used Delivery Confirmation on a package, but buyers are well aware that if you DONT use Delivery Confirmation or some sort of tracking, they can get the item completely for free because that is the only thing Pay Pal looks for, no tracking then you can kiss the $$ goodbye and buyers know this and do it at will and mockingly.
Worse yet, is you use USPS and get a lazy postal worker who doesnt feel like scanning that little bar code when they deliver the package and the same thing happens. It doesnt matter if the package is insured....which is what insurance is for to insure against damage or loss by USPS...it doesnt matter if you pay the 55 cents for Delivery Confirmation so that the postal clerk on your end has to scan the bar code at the counter, which is the ONLY way they are obligated to do so, if you use the free Delivery Confirmation your package doesnt get scanned at any point along the way either, but if the buyer sees that his postal worker didnt bother to scan the package at his doorstep they will get the package for free via Pay Pal dispute regardless to the package being insured, regardless to the package being scanned at the post office it was shipped from as well as other places along the way while in transit, Pay Pal will give the money back to the buyer every time and the seller is out the money and the item.
This is fraud just the same...but no one ever talks about how rampant it is on EBay, yet it occurs just as much and Pay Pal helps buyers in their fraudulent claims! Now Ebay is allowing these bogus buyers to look like a saint with 100% positive feedback so that we cant even warn other sellers, that is horse *hit!
It is bad enough the fraudulent bidding that goes on with stolen credit cards and Pay Pal accounts, and those buyers who will dispute all their holiday purchases claiming their account information to be stolen just to get a free Christmas, but this latest policy goes too far and only helps buyer fraud to be even more free and easy on Ebay. This is yet one more reason I am glad I left Ebay and diversified to running my own website instead and process payments through my own merchant account. Amazing how in 2 years time with my own merchant account and website I have not had one single chargeback or issue with fraudulent buyers, because everyone knows if you want to pull a scam go to Ebay!

End of the story:
Sellers feedback score will slowly go down to another level like 85% for a good seller. That includes some buyer morons that just give shitty feedback for no reason. But overall this will put him in place with bad sellers who get maybe 45% with morons and normal proper buyer feedback. So if we compare one buyer's feedback with another one's it's all good. Only problem if one seller gets all the moron buyers - which is not really possible.
So get over it! Will be all good. Just get used to your new lower feedback score.

I recently let my parents buy something using my eBay account (they paid with their PayPal account). The collector's item came in a padded envelope and the cardboard was bent; I left a neutral feedback, because I don't use eBay very often and thought neutral was NEUTRAL! We hadn't read everything that said to try and resolve it beforehand (our bad). Well, the seller has been harassing us with multiple vitriolic e-mails, and she even called my parents' house 3 times. She has had 2 neutrals in 12 months out of about 500 positives, so I still don't see what the big deal is. I, in turn, out of about 18 transactions, have left 2 neutral and 1 negative, for good reasons. Her response to my feedback was to say "Sellers beware, buyer has left 33% negative or neutral feedback in the last 2 years"- if that isn't a negative feedback towards me, the buyer, I don't know what is. Anyway, I'm going to be a lot more leery of using eBay from now on.

Sales have really dropped on ebay. I remember when I used to buy autographed items people would fight over them,now I can't even resell them for a fair price. It's crazy.
