Despite prohibitively high activation fees of $120 (about half a year's salary for an employee of the government), Cubans lined up on Monday to get their hands on the first legally available consumer cell phones in the country. Of course, a cell phone and minutes were an additional charge, but that didn't stop people from flooding the streets causing waits of up to an hour just to sign up for a contract.
Fidel's brother Raul Castro has pledged to remove
many of the restrictions on electronics and home appliances, such as DVD players and dishwashers, which have been used to keep living conditions among Cubans equal. Still, with prices this high, the move seems to be pure political theater.

Well, the last frontier is opening up, slowly. Cuba will be the next boom with average 6+% year after year for the next 20 yrs as happened in china, except this one much closer to home.
