Homeland Security Says Cyber Threats Could Be As Bad As 9/11

US homeland security chief Michael Chertoff has made what the BBC is calling "a heartfelt plea" to Silicon Valley workers, asking them to stand up and fight to secure the cyber highway. At the world's biggest IT security get-together this week -- the RSA Conference in San Francisco -- he told the audience that serious threats to cyberspace are on "a par this country tragically experienced on 9/11".
"We take threats to the cyber world as seriously as we take threats to the material world," Mr Chertoff added. In an appeal to the powerful, privately-owned corporations that dominate cyberspace, Chertoff said: "Please send some of your brightest and best to do service in the government."
It was, he said, "the best thing you can do for your country".
We're gonna have to go ahead and assume he doesn't know about LOLcats.

Yeah, well I still don't see homeland security's relevance so there. Give their job and budget to the FBI.

WTF, how can you compare a bunch of hackers to the lives of 3000 (I think). I mean of course there are the nukes and everything but those should be in a closed network anyway, they can destroy countries...
