Drunk Newlyweds Tasered and Jailed

Ah, wedding night. A magical evening filled with frivolity and passion, and, evidently, non-lethal electrocution via taser.
Sigh.
A Vallejo, California couple was thrown in jail on their wedding night after a house party was repeatedly broken up by police. Neighbors reported hearing loud music late into the night and the party eventually headed outside.
The groom, evidently overjoyed by the prospect of everlasting marital bliss, became a bit too animated for police. He was treated to a healthy dose of electrical current after he stripped off his shirt and advanced toward officers with balled up fists. He got tasered. On his wedding night. Well played, sir.
Not to be outdone, the bride was also arrested for public intoxication. Both of them spent the evening in Solano County Jail.
We are aware that the economy is not at its strongest right now, but seriously, wasn't there an easier way to score a cheap room for the night? Here's hoping the rest of their lives go more smoothly than the first 24 hours of their marriage.

Sean says:
Anyone who says the couple deserved it is idiots. The police officers now, need more citizen sensitivity training. I hope those cops are found to have used excessive force when making the arrest. Tasers or billy clubs and or bullets kill. We are all suppose to feel sympathy for cops, when their injured on duty, but why?....................Their JOB puts them in the line of fire. This is something that should be expected if you want to be or already are a cop. US Citizens should not be faced with police brutality, because he or she was intoxicated; especially after your wedding. Am I supposed to believe the groom and bride were the only ones there drinking or drunk? Come on.

Perhaps the bride and groom should have rented a cornfield if they wanted to act like idiots. How about we place the blame where it belongs? If not for them acting stupid, the police would not have been called MULTIPLE times.
I'm one of those bleeding heart liberals and even I know that.

whoever approves of the use of tasers are idiots. You havnt done your research if that is the case. People are dead, not just one, but multiple people are dead because of cops using the tasers.
Angela dear moron, Tasers came along because cops were shooting and killing clowns like this or bashing their heads in with nightsticks. I say let them go back to guns and nightsticks.

People on here pulling the race bullshit, need to quit. All the different races have there thugs, druggies, and gangsters. And truthfully I think the black race can complain. They are often victims of racism from the cops. I have witnessed it myself. When a cop wanted to rip my car apart thinking we were transporting drugs just because my friend was black. We had told his ass that we were shopping at the Galleria, and had bags to prove it. Did his ass put my car seats back after they found nothing or even apologize. HELL NO! But as i was saying white people have thugs, black people have thugs, and mexican. So stop judging saying it is one particular race. Damn I have much hatred for you ignorant racist people.

Taser's kill.....watch TV news or read the newspaper. It's just another thing cops can abuse.

mediocre pay? They are paid better than most. That job is dangerous. but the the pay is not bad. A taser beats a bullet by far. It sounds like the newlyweds screwed up, the cops did their job, where was the best man? He should have been out front protecting the groom from himself.

i do believe that sometimes it is nesassery. but i hope that when they do itits because there is no other choice, not just because they can

The police should taser then say "don't get up" "don't get up" while constantly tasering their victim over and over again and every time they do try to get up from being tasered with no mercy they beat the holy crap out of their victim. Rodney King had an instructional video out on how it works.

It seems like the world and the police are more concerned with stupid little things instead of crime and the rapists.
At least this way they get to catch someone I guess. It just seems as if all the news is on the stupid stuff like this. Couldn
they have just given them a break instead of coming on so hard to them. And when they do catch some kids that are a little rowdy they beat the crap out of them on tv as well. What is this world coming to?

um...there are goods and bads of tasers. Sure some are fatal, but if police used guns...DUH! Like 50 million people die from guns so yeah, im for the taser any time. AND for the people who are against it, well its their own opinion. im not against that. :)

Ava, Angela,
IF a large drunk comes toward you with fists balled ready to pummel you what would you recommend for the officers to prevent them being hurt, bystanders or the offender. The force used in the show "Cops"; jump him, drag him to the ground placing a knee on the middle of the spine or shoulders while wrestling the hands back to cuff him. As a next door neighbor would you just say don't worry about it, he's just drunk.
As the drunk, what would I prefer. Gun, taser, or dragged down...well the lessor of the three is taser. IMO> Any way you use will be stress on the heart, mind and body. The one which is quickest is best. Even in that, death could occur. The idea is to minimize the pain and sorrow and for the officers, to go home with no major injury to themselves or others. Especially not allowing it to affect those who are not involved. Protect and serve. Yes, you must at times meet the force with equal force to stop an object from going where it aught not. That's is just science. There was no reason for the man to go with balled fists to fight the officers, he was drunk, being unreasonable, Officers have more right than you or I to defend themselves. If he would have gotten too rowdy or dangerous, he could've been shot or been killed. It does depend on the individual and the situation. You never ever know. Plus, the officers had been there previously. They knew what they were dealing with. They were prepared to end it peaceably from the broad view. I think it ended well and the officers are to be commended. They diffused the situation with jail not a plot in the cemetery or a visit to the hospital for them or the couple. If it took a Taser, so be it. The couple could've ended up dead. Good job officers, that is what we pay you for and ask from you. You put life and yourselves on the line to keep the peace with its following order in the community. What more can we ask. Maybe officers, you should have offered him a beer and wedding cake. Maybe he would have sat down and chatted about how sorry he was you had to come out again. Then again, maybe you knew differently, that is what I'll go with. Escher may have a point against some officers, but, I don't think Officers he means to say you were reckless and wrong. He wasn't there to run the show, so he doesn't have any knowledge of the situation you were facing. Ava and those who are angry at the Police officers, were you there or know someone who was? Did you get the information from the media or what source? Why do you speak as you do? Was it you have dealt with those officers before yourself?

The guidelines for tazering are all over the board. There was a day when police officers were trained to control aggresive drunks and stumbling idiots, now they taze them? If an offender is running from a police officer or creates an imminent threat, one in which they create a serious danger then hell yeah, taze them. But a drunk guy who "supposedly" came after them with his shirt off and fists out is just not worthy of a taze. Cops are gettin lazy!

I live in a trailer.Ialso make very good money doing programming and graphics for a living.
Some of my best friends also live in trailers. They are highly intelligent people as well. They also do not go around spouting off this holier-than-thou look down your noses at others attitude that a lot of you idiots on here seem to have.It sounds like you got your opinions watching Jerry Springer.Get off your snobby little high horse, girl.
By the way,98% of cops nowadays are thugs out for whatever they can get, only with badges that let them get by with pretty much whatever they want.I am perfectly capable of defending myself, and have no use for them.
