Apple Slapped With Class Action Suit Over Misleading iMac Ads

Instead of using the same 8 bit in-plane switching screens as the previous generation, the new 20-inch iMacs went with an older technology called 6-bit twisted nematic film. This older technology limits the screens to 262,144 simultaneous colors, which limits the viewing angle and negatively effects color accuracy, making the screen completely ill-suited for video editing and digital imaging and photography.
The suit has been filed by the California based law firm Kabateck Brown Kellner.

doesn't surprise me. they are loosing their touch hardcore. they are all about profits and not about quality. they make 33% profit margin unlike dell for example which makes closer to 10%
CA11550 @ Apr 7th 2008 2:43PM
Apple best just write the check. This is a loser for them.
Elmer @ Apr 7th 2008 2:44PM
Apple just best settle. This is a loser for them.
LMAO at Apple users @ Apr 7th 2008 3:03PM
Wow cutting edge indeed LMAO. Apple just throws crap out the door and thier lemmings just snatch it up. Lets see Ipods that are obsolete the second you walk out the door non upgradeable computers , exploding laptops, Laptops that cannot be used with hardrvies from your other Mac, special adapters to use the USB port on a laptop, non replaceable laptop battery need to send your laptop back to factory to change a freaking battery WTFUWT 300 plus dollars for a BATTERY WTF!, won't talk to your desktop Mac. and it goes on.
apple only makes trendy flashy JUNK that they charge a fortune for.
Dean Ross @ Apr 7th 2008 3:49PM
Pathetic, rabid Mac users foam at the mouth, defending how superior their Mac is over all Windows PC's. The little "Apple Cult" was just put in their place. They paid more for nothing. Apple is only around to make excessive profits from rubes.
Howard Stout @ Apr 7th 2008 4:05PM
Personally, I buy NOTHING that is sold or made by Apple. 1 computer by them is enough for me. None of their overpriced, poorly made junk for me.
Joey @ Apr 7th 2008 4:29PM
Sorry it took me so long to post. I'm using Vista...
This isn't about Apple's charm or even the quality of its product. This was a financial/corporate decision.
I don't see how anyone can crow about Windows superiority while complaining about Apple shipping a substandard product--not with the myriad of issues facing Vista users like myself.
Linda @ Apr 7th 2008 4:42PM
Just goes to show you what idiots are out there.Mentioning Dell with Apple. Dell is a piece of crap. Once you go Mac you never go back. Vista...can you believe it. What an example. I guarantee Apple will make good on all of this problem. Like us private owners who have that 20 inch Imac. We don't even know that it is not displaying the full spectrum of color. Looks fine to me. Look at your Dell now....cause in 2 years they won't even be a player.

Dell computers are crap, you could've picked a better example! And Windows Vista has sold more Mac computers than any Apple advertisement. Apple is a very innovative company and everytime they come out with a new product the PC world struggles to keep up. So go play with your Zune and your DRM infested operating system!
squsy @ Apr 7th 2008 4:55PM
I'm with the others about Mac products in general. I bought a SanDisk sansaRhapsody mp3 player which is the same size as the normal ipod, host half the price and whereas that ipod can only play music, my player has music, video, photo, and radio capabilities. the program for using it (Rhapsody) sort of stinks at the moment (first edition) but its still better than the ipod plus its cheaper...
CaptKinky @ Apr 7th 2008 5:04PM
"and whereas that ipod can only play music"
Do you have any idea of what you are talking about?
Anthony @ Apr 7th 2008 5:24PM
I highly doubt the oversight was intentional, someone somewhere forgot to update the ads, it happens all the time in companies the size of apple it's just usually never found out. MS has done it, so has GM even Best Buy for gods sake. Apple gets hit with suits like this because people are money grubbers, they could have just returned the imac and exchaged it or got a refund. Instead they reach for Apple's wallet. Ipod's kickass and the million knock off's suck, period.
cc @ Apr 7th 2008 5:48PM
I don't know about you, but I am making a killing on their stock!
O Jay @ Apr 7th 2008 5:52PM
I own Macs and PCs. I am also a certified PC repair tech.
That said, Apple's products are better than Microsoft's stuff.
Period.
I got an older Powerbook once, loaded up the OS (Tiger) and the thing worked the first time right away.
Haven't said that about MS since...DOS.
:)

I worked for apple....honestly it is the best company. The only thing they care about is their customers. Their products are amazing. They upgraded the 24'' iMac and not the 20'' because they found the majority of the people using the base model 20'' weren't using them for video editing or photography.....
Oh and btw....I worked for Dell too....they ONLY care about profit. They could't even keep their stupid kiosks that I worked at open. Apple came from nothing and cherish their customers. They will always bend backward for you to make you happy. I will always believe that Apple is a great company, walk into an Apple store and talk to an associate, you will too.
lita @ Apr 7th 2008 6:27PM
While O Jay may be a "certified PC tech," he fails to make the important distinction that Apple makes hardware and software; Microsoft makes software. The problem is that Microsoft programs have to run on lots of different hardware; Apple hardware is very limited and, therefore, much easier to write for. Apple saw to that decades ago when they allowed other companies to produce Mac-compatible computers, but when those computers started to outdo the Mac in both features and price, they changed the licensing fees and priced the competiton out of the market. (How did that not violate some kind of anti-trust law?)
And by the way, we own a Mac, two IBMs, and a Dell. None have needed repair....
Pete @ Apr 7th 2008 7:51PM
85-90% of the world's computers are Microsoft. Of COURSE there are going to be people out to screw Apple over! I'm sorry, lawsuits like this are utterly pointless and a slap in the face to the legal system. If it were over something like a MS-generated idea that Apple stole, that I can understand, but this is a perfect example why Bill Gates' monopoly on the computer business NEEDS to be challenged. Again, a totally pointless lawsuit. I've used both Macs and PCs over the years and I've had way less problems with Apples. So the score now reads something like Apple: -1, Microsoft: -22
StoneMan @ Apr 7th 2008 8:14PM
Pete is right about the Lawsuit. In any class action suit the only class that gets the money is the Lawyer Class, not the Mac Class. Lawyers are Scum.
mano-man @ Apr 7th 2008 8:23PM
Well, well, well, It's the old, "My dad can beat your dad. The truth of the matter is that I can't see any difference between our old and new 20" Imacs, and I do a lot of photography work.
To take sides on the war of the machines I have to lean towards the Mac. I have a Mac Plus that still works fine but every PC that has entered this house has passed on usually some where between one and two years. But I still have a working PC. Best thing though is running both platforms on the Macs.
