Bullet-Proof "Safe" Bed Has Own Toilet, Air Supply, and Microwave Oven

For the truly paranoid among us, there's a new extreme standard for which to strive in securing a good night's sleep. The "Quantum Sleeper" promises restful protection from "bio-terrorist attack, natural disaster, kidnappers/stalkers" and, of course, it's bulletproof.
If you regularly bed down in a hostile environment, maybe this is the right bed for you. The great thing is that securing yourself inside doesn't mean you're separated from many of the common comforts you would expect. The Quantum Sleeper can be fitted with a CD player, a DVD player with PC hookup, a microwave oven and even a refrigerator. Plus, it has options for cell phones, CB and short-wave radios.
The price tag on this bunk runs about $160 thousand. Basic requirements include enough space to install the unit, which weighs about 2000 pounds and expands to 138" wide x 98" high x 150" long when fully open. If you choose the natural disaster options, the manufacturer recommends it be installed on a ground floor with a concrete slab for proper anchoring, "to resist the forces of wind and water." Plus, installing on the ground floor will prevent the unit from falling through should the home structure become weak due to fire or other forces (or, say, really heavy beds).
Some other characteristics of the bed:
- The 1.25" thick Polycarbonate plastic plating is constructed of laminated sheets and is capable of stopping a bullet from a hand gun up to a 357 magnum caliber. It has a tensile strength of 9,000 psi with a Specific Gravity of 1.2.
- The units are designed to 20 percent compression and rated for greater than 7 psi (15' of water static head pressure).
- The head cover side and front plates will be clear but w/ reflective characteristics that will allow the unit occupants to see out but prevent those on the outside from seeing in. The polycarbonate plating together provides the main attributes of a safe bed, safe room & bomb shelter.

So, if it's only good to stop a .357 bullet, what if the perp has a .40 or .45 or a Dessert Eagle, a guess you spent $160K to sleep in a not so bullet proof bed/sleep chamber.

357 shoots at a much higher velocity than any of those weapons. You'd be safe...

Please, it would be much more logical to have a panic room built in your house, at least that way you will have a restroom to use while you are in hiding.

If you feel the need to have one of these beds you don't need to be living in a house by yourself. You should be in a hosipital for Paranoid Disorder.

What do you do about electricity? And what if you can't get it opened? Where do you put the food for the microwave? And how do you use the toilet if your lying down? Where is the water to flush or clean? Or drink? This is over doing a bed a bit. Probably won't catch on. I get cluster phobia when lying in a bunk in an RV. Definetly wouldn't catch me in it.

Of all the absurd wastes of money this one definatly takes the cake. This is the height of paranoia. I'll take my chances and choose not to live in fear.

Bullet proof yea right, assault rifles are far more powerful than a 357 mag. So it is not bullet proof. waste of money, only rich idiots would buy it.

This has to be the dumbest idea ever. If someone can actually afford a bed that cost $160,000, then they are not the type of person who lives in an area that would need this type of bed. I don't even think the rich and famous will go for this one.

Couldn't kidnappers just use equipment to hoist the whole bed, with you inside? Doesn't sound like there are any amazing measures to prevent the closed bed from becoming trapped under tons of rubble... and that air will eventually run out. It will stop bullets of a 357 magnum caliber. To keep from being shot, does one have to sleep with the hood down, know ahead of time the bullet is getting ready to be fired so you can hurry to put the hood down, or realize... too late... that you are trapped in a Venus Flytrap of a bed, and the bad guy WILL get you out with a stronger weapon? At least if you are trapped and immobile, the end will come fast with an RPG! I would also point out that the quoted $160k asking price is misleading. The price of the natural disaster options is extra, and the hidden costs will not be cheap, either. Lastly, now that this private personnel sleeper has been made public, the safety factor just plummeted. Any investors this company gets will be dimwitted enough to actually close themselves up in this box. Is there an escape latch in case of electrical failure, or a glitch in the product? And may God be with you if that toilet overflows in captivity.

Someone who even thinks about buying this $160,000 bed would most likely have all these features on the walls of their huge mansion/estates, with extensive guard fences and gated driveway. In this scenario, I would give a pat on the back to the robber who gets as far as the front door to harm the wealthy homeowners.

A winged turtle with a lace saddle would be a better buy.

Just check into your local mental hospital or call your therapist. If you feel like you need this bed, you need serious psychological help.

Ha, most people who live in a war zone where this bed could be deemed practical couldn't even afford it. If they could buy it they wouldn't need it. They would just move.
