Airline Introduces In-Flight Showers

What if it's not enough to have your own private suite (see image above) on your flight from New York to the Middle East? Leave it to Emirates Airlines, out of Dubai, to top its own first-class offering. The airline has announced its new Airbus A380 jets will be the first in commercial use to provide first-class passengers with an in-flight shower. Sounds like a nice, refreshing way to improve that approximately 12 1/2 hour flight, but be ready to shell out nearly $18,000 for the privilege.
The showers will first be introduced on the airline's Dubai to New York City direct route on October 1, but plans are in place to expand the luxury perk across Emirates' entire fleet of 50 A380s.
The showers cost much more than money, though, according to an environmental watchdog group called "Plane Stupid," which cites the enormous carbon footprint for this kind of over-the-top extravagance. The showers will require an extra ton of water to be transported onboard -- the same as having 12 extra passengers come along for the ride -- and will have carbon cost of 48,455 pounds for every flight.
Despite the cost and environmental impact, we'd still prefer a high-end shower as opposed to a flight attendant dousing us with water.

Ah, Chris, get your facts straight. Although gasoline and diesel, aka, jet fuel, aka kerosene, aka, heating oil are different, they both originate from crude oil.

John Campbell is another fool who lives in denial, claiming more and more scientists dispute global warming. Name them! You can't because 90+ of accredited scientists in the meteorlogical fields agree that global warming is real. In case you haven't heard John, a huge chunk of Antarctica just broke off and is floating out to sea, as a result of global warming.
You are the one that should be barred from this forum, not "Alex' and it will be jerks like you that will be remembered generations down the road, if the world survives, as the ones that disregarded climate change.
By the way John, the world isn't flat.

I feel this region and the people who come from here need to clean up there act, and in more ways then one!

If your flying First Class, the airline gives you free use of their airport Lounge Club. Which have showers so you can clean up before meeting your clients, etc. It's is a small price to pay, showering in the Airline lounge, if you can help save the enviorment.

Just how many passenger miles does the water take to haul! What a waste of gas to haul water! And since passengers are, basically, NOT using any real energy - what is the need for a damned shower! Planes are airconditioned, are we catering to 'clean freaks' - so much for a 'green environment!
Don't they still make those 'towlettes' that we long time fliers have used!

Here's an article about 17,200 scientists (not the 3,000 political operatives like the IPCC) that dispute global warming:

And another link to a story yesterday regarding the "Argo" experiment that's been going on since 2003:

Does this show that global warming DOESN'T exist? No. But it shows that we should employ some pretty significant skepticism about what is currently being presented as "fact" and "consensus".

Showers on trains work great; especially in your own compartment.
As a matter of fact, trains are all around more comfortable than planes! It is easier to move about, have better views from the observation car and I think the food is better and served better than on planes.
Travel more in our country and enjoy it by TRAIN!

Just think folks, we can now fly on a super luxurious airliner "with Showers" for 12 hours to a country with a super fabulous vacation destination. Where Donald Trump and who knows who else are sinking millions of American dollars into a country where a mere 580 miles away American Soldiers are dying to secure our saftey. Why are we supporting that country with money that would be better spent right here at home to relieve the poverty and suffering of the American people?? Lets build here and give jobs to our own people, what a concept!!!!!!

showers seem okay. mud wrestling is nice. paint ball matches maybe, a good full court basketball game is in order or possibly a bowling alley. now that;s first class.

In defence of Bob Wong, I do not think his statement was racist or that he meant them to be offensive to Muslims at all. All he meant was that they may have to shower more frequently, that is all, in a non pejorative sense.

I really can't believe after all of this time, people are still debating over global warming. A massive ice shelf just broke off of Antarctica because of increased temperatures. More incidences like that will raise sea levels, decrease sea surface temperatures and drastically change the climate and possibly stop the Coriolis effect. We don't need more unnecessary things like showers on airplanes. It's just expensive waste for the convenience of a minority.

An absolute waste of resources! There are places in third-world countries where people struggle to find 1-2 gallons of reasonably clean potable water per day and some rich so & so is concerned about taking a shower during an airplane flight? This has to be one of the most selfish things I've heard of yet!
