Little Old Lady Suing Electronics Giants Over Laser Patents
Gertrude Neumark Rothschild may be older than the day is long, but she knows a thing or two about laser beams. Or so she claims. The retired Columbia University professor is bringing a case against nearly all the major consumer electronics giants, ranging from Nokia to Samsung to Sony. Her complaint was filed with the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) on February 20th, and insists that 30-odd companies are violating a patent she owns for "light-emitting and laser diodes." Today, the ITC has agreed to investigate the matter.
Rothschild has had success with similar lawsuits against Philips and major manufacturers in the past (the Philips matter was settled out of court earlier this month).
You go, girl.
