If you're going to carry all that crap around, what's the point of using a laptop? Might as well lug a desktop around with you. Totally stoopid!
Besides a laptop with a 12-inch or smaller screen (anything larger is a desktop!), a mouse, headphones and a large flash drive is all you need. Ever.

I used to tour around the US for a show at 4 months at a time....had a PowerBook G4 12".......I used the track pad until my wrist started killing me. Wireless mouse is a MUST along with the portable speakers. If you travel lightly, speakers may not be necessary, but if you live in a hotel 4 months at a time, it is a must have. As far as the hard drives, I upgraded my internal with a 120GB, which is more than enough, don't think I would ever tote one of those around. I think one more thing to consider would be headphones for the plane or bus.
