World's Smallest Microwave - the iWave Cube

The iWave Cube compacts your standard microwave into a box about the size of a small ottoman. It even has a handle on top for lugging your cook box around (you know, for all those times you really need to lug a microwave around).
The genesis of the iWave Cube is even weirder than the product itself. On the device's home page, the Managing Member of iCubed International, Phil Davis, says, "I was looking for a way to do a hot towel treatment before my shave. I figured the only way I could do that was to have a microwave in the bathroom. I went and got a tape measure, and it went from there."
The usefulness of the iWave Cube is questionable. Though the space-saving form makes it the perfect size for a dorm room, the iWave Cube doesn't look like it can heat up anything much larger than a Cup'Noodle or mug of hot water.
One thing we are sure of, though, is the name is absolutely terrible. Please, please, please, stop sticking lowercase 'i's in front of your company or product name, especially if it has nothing to do with the Internet which is what the 'i' originally was meant to imply.
The Cube retails for $130 via SkyMall (that shopping mag in the seat pouch of every flight you've ever taken).

This thing is stupid. How do you expect to cook pop corn when the bag is bigger than the mircrowave. You can only pop two kernels at a time and that would take up your whole day.

This is not a new concept, or even the first one one on the market. The Wavebox was first and it comes in colours. It is also smaller and easier to carry.

OMG thank Lord someone spoke about the "i"...leave the "i" for Apple products and stop trying to be cool like them.

If someone's going to write an article, why can't they be specific? It would be nice to know the dimensions, weight, and wattage. Wouldn't it? This article leaves you wondering.
Anyway, a small electric kettle or coffeepot or next to your desk will do the same job, and take less space. Even a heating coil in a cup. As for a hot towel before a shave, I do the same with a bowl of hot water! Who needs all this extra gadgetry cluttering up their lives?
georgeMar 5th 2008 12:12PM
Clever-looking little gadget. But I want to GET RID of things, not get MORE things. We have too much junk in our lives.
And $130. bucks??? Plus shipping, handling, etc.! Not worth it. Besides, I bought and paid for a bunch of stuff from that company. They charged my credit card but never sent me anything. All correspondence was ignored. Once burned, twice wise! No, thanks. I would only buy it if they put it right in my hand in a store. And even then I don't need it.

So this lazy dumh*ss can't walk from the kitchen to the bathroom with a hot towel?? And I don't know about you, but I have an ottoman, and it's not gonna fit on my kitchen counter....so how small is this thing really??
RhondaMar 5th 2008 12:35PM
Instead of buy regular bags of popcorn you now have to buy mini-bags. LOL!!!

Microwave ovens and pacemakers do not mix. Keep them apart.

The article brags that "The iWave Cube compacts your standard microwave into a box about the size of a small ottoman."
An ottoman? really?
I've never seen an ottoman that was smaller than the largest microwave.
Maybe the author is reffering to a midget Turk. But even that would probably be larger than a microwave.

just another toy for the yuppies, and the rich who don't have anything else to do with their money.
WendyMar 5th 2008 2:29PM
Actually, MIKE G., they do have (conventional) oven/freezers that can keep a turkey frozen 'til it's timer says "Bake", then defrost and bake it without your lifting a finger.

I found the advert on this. It's at http://www.sharperimage.com/us/en/catalog/product/sku__IW400BLK and the thing measures 10" x 10.5" x 12". I'm no fan of microwaves: I believe it's not healthy to warm up your food, much less actually cook with it (It zaps out all the nutrients). But I've been wanting to find a very small one to warm up wax (hair remover 8-) !) and this is great because it woun't take up much space and I can just unplug it and put it away easily.

Another thing I'm leery about is electrical gadgets in the bathroom. Anything near water and plumbing is very hazardous. And all that just to have a hot towel!! Doesn't he get hot water from his tap? Mine comes out nearly steaming. If he needs hotter water, he could get the same with a little electric kettle or hot pot that would be smaller and safer. Unnecessary!
