Microsoft is preparing to release the first major update to
Vista, Service Pack 1 (SP1), which is supposed to clear out some of the
major issues users have had with Vista, including speed and compatibility problems. Unfortunately for those eagerly awating SP1, it seems that Microsoft is creating just as many problems as it's solving.
Microsoft released an admittedly incomplete list of applications that will either not work properly or not work at all with SP1:
- BitDefender AV
- Fujitsu Shock Sensor
- Jiangmin KV Antivirus 10
- Jiangmin KV Antivirus 2008
- Trend Micro Internet Security
- Zone Alarm Security Suite
- Iron Speed Designer
- Xheo Licensing
- Free Allegiance
- NYT Reader
- Rising Personal Firewall
- Novell ZCM Agent
Ironically, most of the applications that will lose functionality or not work at all with Vista SP1 are security applications -- namely
firewalls and anti-virus programs. One of the major complaints against Microsoft Windows is its relative insecurity when
compared to Mac OS X and the Linux operating systems, so losing access to security programs will be a major drawback for most users.

zonealarm won't work with vista as it is, I think it's down to zonealarm to make a vista version, not the other way around.

I have purchased 3 PC's & 2 laptops with Vista preinstalled. One of the OPC's had Vista Basic, the others all have Vista Home Premium. 1 laptop is a Dell INTEL CORE DUO w/VHP-works great! 1 laptop is HP Dual Core AMD w/VHP-works great! 1 PC is HP dual core AMD w//VHB-works great! 1 is a Gateway, with a terabyte of hard drive, 3G dual channel memory, G-Force 8500 vid card and all that jazz. The monster of the bunch. IT SUX! Crashes every day. Blue Screen of Death every few hours. Buy AMD, Buy HP, buy Dell if you must, but this Gateway really is an ambarrasement.

I have a new HP laptop with Vista Home Premium. The OS looks nice but it SUCKS!!!! My laptop has two gigs of ram and it acts like an old laptop with 256mb. Vista is slow, horrible on bootup (with nothing in my start tray) slow to shutdown if it even shuts down and doesn't hang, and is constantly crashing applications. At least Micro$oft is consistent - they keep pushing overpriced sub-standard junk.

I just purchased BitDefender AV, one of the security apps affected by Vista SP1....
A dumb question....if I update to SP1 and then install BitDefender AV, will Vista still disable it ???
