Free Fan-Made Games Hit the Xbox 360
Yeah, okay, so that Netflix on Xbox 360 announcement we were hoping for didn't exactly come to pass yesterday as expected (seems the parties involved are going to make us wait a little longer). Microsoft did still have some interesting things to announce, though. The biggest is the release of a number of homemade games available for download right now, all for free.
The games are all created through Microsoft's XNA studio, a platform released to independent developers hoping to make a name for themselves with innovative little titles. XNA has been available for quite some time now, but this is the first time the fruits of those developers has been available for download to the Xbox. There are seven games available for download now through the Xbox Live Marketplace, all free and all rather different than anything else you've played before.
Pictured above is JellyCar, a silly side-view platforming driver where you drive squishy cars around on what looks like a scribbled landscape. 'The Dishwasher: Dead Samurai' is a fast-paced 2-D combat game with lots of action, and 'Rocketball' is like a game of dodgeball on steroids. Are any of these the next 'Halo'? No, but they might just give 'LittleBigPlanet' a run for its money.
