How To Lower Your Cell Phone Bill

5. Cut back on text messages
The convenience of text messaging is obvious, but the charges are not. Without a pricey unlimited plan, texting can cost you up to 15 cents a pop, and that can add up quickly, especially if you're the type that uses these little typed messages for lengthy dialogues. Many airlines and banks offer flight updates and balance information via text -- while these services seem convenient, they can really do a job on your wireless bill, not to mention wake you up with a new message alert in the middle of the night. So sign up for e-mail alerts instead, and check those on your own time. And don't forget, it's sometimes easier, quicker, and more effective to just make a quick phone call!

Those downloaded games with the recurring charges always get me too (on Sprint). Have to ask yourself, how often do you really play them?

Roaming guards, like with most Sprint phones (that I know of) come in handy A LOT! If you diasble text messaging on a line or something, when you're roaming, your phone is now able to send and receive texts! Same goes with calling, data, Power Vision, etc...

Won't save you in worry or aggrivation when you have kids driving. I remember growing up and having a car slide off the road on ice having to walk 3 miles at 2am in a snowstorm just to get to a house only to wake up a very irritated and untrusting farmer just to use his phone. Cell phone sure would've come in handy then. I NEVER want my girls going through that.

AT & T appears to be a rather dishonest provider anyway. I downgraded my family minutes. We weren't using the minutes fast enough and I wanted to save some money. The bill after the downgrade was $200.00 more than usual. During my inquiry I was told that they had taken away most of my almost 7000 rollover minutes, we had used up the new minutes and had gone over. I told the salesperson I had not been told the minutes would be taken away and the location Manager and a rep from the Corporate office(I wrote the corporate ofc) said they were sure the salesperson told me about the minutes. How do you keep your rollover minutes when you downgrade or can you?

Great ideas about ways to combat cellular expenses. I wanted to write a follow-up discussing an additional route to wireless savings through the website www.fixmycellbill.com (by a company called Validas) that on average currently saves T-Mobile, Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, and US Cellular customers 22 percent, equating to $484 annually, off their cell bills. I personally save $230 per year through Validas and I have been so impressed with these real results that I recently took a job with the company.
Here's a quick breakdown of how it actually works. Validas analyzes your online cell bill for free and calculates how much money you could be saving. It turns out that eight of ten wireless customers are paying more than they need to for their plans. Validas fixes these discrepancies by tailoring a customer's plan to fit their specific needs. If you choose, Validas provides your personalized cell bill adjustment report that is emailed, for five bucks, to your wireless provider in industry specific format so you can actually implement these cash saving changes. If Validas can save you more than $5 on your bill, this obviously provides a very cost effective solution.
Validas is rapidly gaining a reputation as the preeminent advocate for the wireless customer. Check out a feature about the company on The Big Idea with CNBC's Donny Deutsch at http://www.cnbc.com/id/22782456/. Any cell subscriber who wants to cut costs should consider Validas. It’s free to consult and you only stand to save.
Good luck to everyone trying to reduce their wireless bills.

I don't use the phone much, so I switched to Track-Phone, which is available at any large chain such as Walmart. I usually run out of my 90 days before I run out of minutes. When I add minutes, it extends the days by 90, and rolls over the minutes. Can't beat it.
