Comcast Defends its Crackdown on Movie Downloads

In its defense against complaints concerning its network management, Comcast told the FCC Tuesday that hampering some file-sharing by its subscribers was "a justifiable way to keep Web traffic flowing for everyone."

Comcast's network management has been under scrutiny from consumer groups and law professors, who claim the company has breached the principle of "Net Neutrality" -- i.e. treating all Internet traffic equally. They also say the company was sticking a thorn in the side of movie downloading services because they might compete with Comcast's own cable TV business.

Comcast, the second-largest ISP in the US, says it must curb some file-sharing traffic because some subscribers would otherwise hog the cables with their uploads and slow traffic in their neighborhood.
