Mid-East Cable Cuts Now Affecting 85-Million -- Are Terrorists Involved?
Over the past few weeks, numerous undersea data cables providing data access to large portions over the Middle East have been severed. Five separate cable cuts have been detected since January 23, a rash of incidents that some have blamed on wayward fishing trawlers, while others are suspecting terrorism. Regardless of the cause, the scope of the damage is just now becoming known, with 85-million users said to be currently unable to connect to the Internet.
The outages are primarily impacting people from Egypt, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and India, countries that rely on the undersea cables for their connectivity to the rest of the world. Repairs are ongoing right now, but it's unclear just how long they'll take or when the region will be back online. And, since the cause of the cuts is still unknown, there's no guarantee that once they're fixed, it won't just happen again.

To joni VA, the only bombs that go off will be helped by the CIA & FBI. The FBI knew that McVeigh was a set up so planted bombs INSIDE to make it worse (explain the Ryder truck in the army base beforehand). The FBI & CIA KNEW about 9/11 beforehand & planted bombs inside WTC 1,2&7(if you don't think so, explain how WTC7 collapsed on it's own footprint or Larry Silverstein's comment, "to Pull It" & not the Govt version))The US & Israel are the only ones who benefit from this. The US cut the cables to Germany just before declaring war on them & now, possibly, Iran. Read some real news, not propaganda rubbish & learn your history of the CIA (the worlds largest drug runners). The US & Israeli Governments are the TERRORISTS. Stop kidding yourselves everyone.

So let me guess, the terrorists have submarines now to cut cables, give me a break.Alqueada cant be everywhere.

To whom it may concern:
Clearly you are displaying editorial bias by using the headline to imprint association with this act and so called terrorists. This is essentially a subliminal technique, and your spurious insignificant pretend-a-poll is about creating opinion, not researching it. Why don't you just run a headline stating "Jews Use Our News to Shape Your Views." It's catchy and more informative than your weak pseudo-journalism. But you're not in it for journalism are you? You're in it for the money, so God Bless You.

Yes,they will try anything to prop up the declining dollar.Iran is going Euro on oil and the good old boys can't have that. You think anything is going to change with any of those running for President less it's Ron Paul...NOT!!! Trouble is all most Americans care about is what they watch on TV,what they are going to eat that night and who's in bed with them or if they have their cell phone and what CD they will play next. And then you have some that don't care if we Invade another Country only for the sake of their Oil as long as it means cheap gas for the car/truck they're in debit to.Yeah wake up people and see whats really going on.MSM not going to tell you so yeah least take the time to dig a little on the Internet to the real news.

"We (the Americans) should have done this ourselves"
This is why I didn't know how to answer the AOL poll question because I didn't know if American terrorists are counted in the results.
Oh there aren't any? Then who planned Operation Northwoods?

There have been nine cable cuts/breaks since January 23rd.
one off of Marseille, France
two off of Alexandria, Egypt
one off of Dubai, in the Persian Gulf
one off of Bandar Abbas, Iran in the Persian Gulf
one between Qatar and the UAE, in the Persian Gulf
one in Suez, Egypt
one near Penang, Malaysia and another one (which is so far unreported) in the Persian Gulf on Jan. 23rd.
The new Iran oil bourse has been effectively isolated from trading other than by a circuitous route. The only countries that would want to isolate Iran in this way are the USA and Israel, and are in net terms the only beneficiaries of this outage. It is worth noting that all but one these "breaks" are in waters abutting Muslim nations. Is this coincidence? I think not.

The article finishes with: "And, since the cause of the cuts is still unknown, there's no guarantee that once they're fixed, it won't just happen again." How disingenuous can you get?
Israel or the USA I'd put money on it, they both have the motive and the means.

The question is insulting. It makes the assumption for me that if I answer that I think terrorists are involed - then by definition they must be middle eastern, because everyone knows thats the ONLY kind! This is the kind of sound bite ignorance I would expect from main stream media. How far down in the water were the cables? Was the cut smooth or jagged? Were ships in the area at the time? I have a LOT of questions. If the Iran Oil Bourse is not allowed to become up and running, we may find our answer. The big question of all is WHO BENEFITS? There will be your answer, assuming this wasn't an "accident". Just like 9/11 - WHO BENEFITS? Thats what some many people never ask, but in almost every single case of criminal activity- there is the answer. ask any good detective - MOTIVE- what's the motive?
BigHFeb 9th 2008 12:14PM
Terrorists the culprit? Using what, their fleet of submarines? More likely, this operation was carried out by a government that has the technical means required, not some gang of terrorists. And countries that have been severly affected by the cable damage are the least likely to be behind this, I would think.

After reading just a few of the comments, I have to wonder what people really are thinking. One person states we should pay those in other countries what we would pay for the same job in the USA, do you realize this would cause worse conditions within the country we outsourced to? But I am sure you really do not care. There are several countries that work with the USA on some level, and this lack of communication can cause further hardships here at home. Heck even you cars have parts that come from all over the world. One missing part due to this could shut down plants here. Wake up people.

Sher says:
How insane is this? We are now to believe, I guess, that "terrorists" ( you know, a band of nuts holding up in a cave in Afghanistan with a lap top or two) cut the cables. Uh-huh. Are you nuts? READ, study. this is propaganda bullcrap. Think about who REALLY stands to gain and has the technical ability to cut those cables, folks.
hey einstien, all you do is buy an old rusty ship, drop anchor where the cable is, power up and drag the anchor until it snags and breaks the cable.
even a smelly little muslim freak can do that.
docFeb 13th 2008 9:35PM
toomey7 says:
These cables are armored, are laid
several feet under the sea floor.
The only ones with ability to cut
5 cables in a few days would be the
USN - who would tap to spy and rig to
blow up later if needed.
02/09/08 9:24 PM
actually, the cables are laying ON the sea floor.
Ray BerthiaumeFeb 13th 2008 11:02PM
Why did not the U.S. MSM report this? I think it was the CIA. It will help spread control for the U.S. Empire.
essejFeb 15th 2008 10:36AM
could this be preemptive to an attack on iran? after all they are the only nation still effected by the cuts
