New Remote-Control Vasectomies Require No Surgery

A new vasectomy procedure has been developed by a team of researchers from Australia's University of Adelaide. Essentially, it consists of a silicone polymer valve that fits snugly inside the vas deferens, thereby blocking the passage of sperm. The valve is inserted through a hypodermic needle, so there's no need for surgery.
The upside is that there's no surgery, and that the procedure is reversible: The doctor can use radio-wave frequency technology to "open" the valve back up, thus letting you commence baby-making.
"It will be like turning a TV on and off with a remote control," team founder Derek Abbott told New Scientist, "except that the remote will probably be locked away in your local doctor's office to safeguard against accidental pregnancy or potential misuse of the device."

Wow this is fantastic! My husband and I are not sure we are done having children but are extrememly tired of dealing with birth control! He very willingly (I'm so lucky) decided to look into the vasectomy because we knew that occasionally it can be reversed. But, I think this is a fantastic option! I really hope it works and becomes available! Not to mention its not a surgery which is even better! I'm truly keeping my fingers crossed for this one!

My husband had this done last year as part of a research study. It was a disaster. He did not become sterile and after 6 months they went in to remove the plugs and THEY WERE LOST!! After an hour and half of digging they found all but one. He still has twinges, we think from the lost one..he ended up getting the traditional type done while they were finding the lost ones. The Dr. told us they had some person there during the procedure who was with the research and he told them they would never do one in their Urology Clinic again.

I was considering getting a vasectomy before reading the above comments. Loosing more of my testosterone would be fatal for me without replacement, and that can be expensive. Thanks for the information. You may have saved my life.

My Grand Daddy used to always say..."if it aint broke..don't fix it." Well...mines broke..I'm 83 years young...did it all...had it all...Pete is dead and gone! But if he was still alive...I still wouldn't subject him to these new fangled science technologees. It seems that science kills or mess up more folks than violence. I'm sticking to my Pappy's ways! I want to thank my neighbor for typing what I want to say. Thanks!

That would be a pretty good trick except there is only one plug. I love how no matter what the story is, someone on AOL has had it done (with bad results of course) but they can never quite get the facts straight.

laineyb - No there would be two plugs, as a normal man has two vas deferens. Though the story still sounds fishy.
