Woman Faces $10 Million Fine for eBaying Without License in PA
Remember when we told you that the government of Pennsylvania was telling any eBayers in the state who sold goods for others to get a license? Yeah, well, apparently they weren't kidding. A woman there opened a consignment shop on the online auction house so that she could stay home and treat her daughter with cancer. Now she faces a $10-million fine for doing so without an auctioneer's license. The woman, 33-year-old Mary Jo Pletz, sold 10,000 items on the site. Each item sold without a license is subject to a $1,000 fine, thus the total of $10 million. Pletz was notified of the law late in 2006 and immediately closed up shop and went to work as a dental hygienist, but that's apparently not enough for the PA government, which is still pursuing the charge.

Charles is quite something...
I think it is sad that she is being fined. As a mother of a child currently going through cancer treatment, I sympathize with the situation.
To sell 10,000 items without one penny of taxes to the state in which you live is not beyond the realm of her reality... there's no way to duplicate what is going through her mind. But, now that she is aware that the taxes are due.. she should pay them and move on. Putting her in jail or fining her money that she cannot produce is a further waste of the taypayer's money.
No one understands what this mother is going through. Each experience is unique to the person.
The added strain on our $100K+ family has been unbearable. The extra expense of medications, $400 a month, and the copays, $5000 a year, and the gas and time away from your home pumping up your need to constantly eat out.
So for someone to comment, begging for money on their blog. You don't know what is required to treat her kid. You have no idea what it costs to treat cancer.... we are only half way through (1 year)and we have already depleted our savings, maxed out our cards, borrowed money from family and lost our house in the bankruptcy we had to file just to get to a point that we can breathe again.
We spend $600 a month to keep gas in our cars just to drive the 2.5 hours to the cancer center for treatments. In order to do this, I had to quit my job. How would your life change if you lost $50K of your income? Think about it, life would suck no matter how well you are with your money... and we are happy to be done with all that.
Thanks to all of the organizations out there that are helping us on a daily basis... and again Charles, you're an @$$!

Perhaps Pennsylvania will borrow a page from Bush's distorted federal law and will want to use rendition, thereby bypassing her Habeas Corpus rights as an American, and escort her from this country to an undisclosed location, so she can therefore "rat" on her fellow underground E-Bayers. Also, by utilizing a Bush Supreme Court ruling, her failure to pay 10 mil to the state results in the forfeiture of her property to the State of PA, for economic development purposes.....

Ebay is an online flea market, buyer beware, as is always the case. Charles' statistics where could they possibly come from? Why do we need the government to take care of us? Why can't we take care of ourselves and accept responsibility? I know this, I am not moving to PA anytime soon, Sheesh, 25k bond and such there will always be bad apples, taxing people to death only encourages that behaviour because struggling folks sometimes see the line between right and wrong get blurry because they, it doesn't validate bad behaviour but you can't fault everyone for the actions of a few. I stand on my own two feet and if I get something off ebay and it is bogus and there is nothing I can do about it well then that is a lesson learned, and I know better next time, otherwise Ihave made some brilliant purchases that i am proud of and continue to revel in.

This is honestly one of the stupidest things I've ever heard. The world is getting out of hand. I don't even know what to say... it's like no one cares about anyone anymore, as long as they get a share of the profit.
Even if her kid didn't have cancer, she shouldn't be thought of any differently. This is idiotic, and needs to be just stopped.

Think about this,
With all the crime facing the city of Philadelphia alone, why would someone choose to pursue a defenseless citizen over the hundreds of known criminals operating all over the state of PA.
it is a question that will make you wonder where the state of our country is headed?

CHARLES CLARK IS A DAMN STUPID FOOL AND PROBABLY
A MEMBER OF SOME GOVERNMENT AGENCY DESIGNED TO HARRASS AMERICAN CITIZENS. IF I SAW HIM I WOULD SLAP HIM AND SPIT IN HIS FACE. THE STATE OF
PENNSYLVANIA IS JUST ANOTHER EXAMPLE OF EXCESSIVE
GOVERNMENT. THEIR NEXT TAX WILL PROBABLY BE ON THE AIR THEIR RESIDENTS BREATHE. WE NO LONGER HAVE " GOVERNMENT OF THE PEOPLE, BY THE PEOPLE,
FOR THE PEOPLE" .

Well I find this disturbing when so many Pawn shops accross the country do this anyway and make a killing. Let alone if some of your own equipment is stolen you have to pay just to get it back. I'm not condoning, or condemming I just would like you to understand that there are crooks anywere and sometimes things happen. I just would like to win the Lotto. Haha The best way I can see through this is hang in there and lets not beat up a Mom who is trying to make a living. Now if she is selling stolen goods. That is different. Lets stop trying to skin a cat.

She needs to contact the DNC and be part of the 'change' Obama is making in DC.
Get appointed to a cabinet post - all taxes issues are forgiven if you're with Obama.

Untill states change their laws to constitutionally sound ones regarding the sale of used private goods between citizens there is not a damn thing that can be done about tax rev from net sales, youer going to have to fine and tax not only ebay but yardsales and fellmarkets...
Hell we should break and reform the IRS into a flat tax system 45% on all goods and services no more property or worker taxes no more forms to sign you buy it taxes paid end of story, distro the taxes up the line 2X to fed,1X to state 0X to city, reverse it for local utitlites(water, power, net, phone, cell), protery is taxed on purchase no more yearly fees to prove you own your land and buildings, instead tax vehicles around a buck a grand, lower for it non polluting ones rise it for polluting ones then tie in tags and ID to it so you don't have to pay more. the system we have in palce only benefits the rich, lawyers and government.
