How to Keep Your Gadgets From Getting Stolen

Several months ago, 3 "young men" robbed my 13 year old son of his i pod a few doors down from my house. He was very upset when he walked in the door and told me what happened. It took me 10 minutes to find them and take it back! I work hard for what I buy my children. When he was 9 years old, someone stole his bike, it took me 3 days to find it and get it back! It's tme we fought back against these low life pieces of crap. And no, I'm not a big burly dad, I'm a MOM. We live in a nice area but right next door is a crappy area, they don't steal in their own neighborhood.

Has anyone noticed that all these (this article) current "necessities" (how did we live before their existance?) are labeled "GADGETS"?????

It seems curious that Apple knows exactly when you listen to a song on your iPod, but cannot disable that product once it's been stolen ????What's up, Apple ?

Don't think your best friend or friends in general aren't thieves. Some will actually steal from you at home! It isn't always the guy with the ski mask, it could be your next door neighbor or one of your kid's friends who swipe things when you aren't looking. Sad isn't it.

Ummm, Ron... one is 8 inches longer so it can go around your head, instead of splitting in the middle of your chest... like most earbuds. Your earbuds were made that way on purpose!

For the guy who said his earbuds are not symetrical...assuming the shorter one is the left one, correct? if this is the case, you put the left one in your ear, and then the cord goes around the BACK of your neck and you put the right one in, so you don't have cords draped around your chin, getting caught in your zipper etc. Way to think.

I think the best anti-theft device is common sense. Keep devices close to your body and avoid using handsfree (bluetooth) on your phone in public. It's alot easier to steal a phone thats being held in your hand and not in your pocket.

Quinns right about getting jostled all the time, and Luigi in Naples- that's a great idea I'll have to try that. Thankfully I haven't had any "gadget" stolen yet- but I've seen it happen to others more than once on the subway. Be extra careful when standing or sitting near the doors- super subtle pickpockets are one thing- but the grab and dashes occur by the doors where the thief has a quick and easy escape.

I HAVE OWNED A BUSINESS AND WAS STOLEN FROM, TO BOOT MY EMPLOYEES RIGHT UNDER MY EYES. IT TOOK ME 8 MONTHS UNTIL I COULD ACTUALLY PIN POINT WHO AND HOW. TO BOOT IT WAS A MOTHER AND P/T DAUGHTER TEAM. DGHTR WAS ONLY 17 SO MOM HAD TO TEACH HER THESE SLICK MOVES, TO BOOT THEY WERE UPPER CLASS PEOPLE, AND WAS THE LAST PEOPLE WHOM I THOUGHT WAS DOING THIS TO ME. I FIRED BOTH AND DID EVERYTHING IN THE BOOK FROM A-Z TO KEEP MY BUSINESS OPEN INCLUDING MAKING MORTGAGES ON MY HOME WELL BY THE TIME I DID CATCH THEM I WAS IN DEBT TO MY DISTRIBUTOR 78,000.00 AND HAD TO SELL THE HOME MY PARENTS BOUGHT WHEN I WAS 3 MO. OLD 3 MONTHS AFTER FIRING THEM MY 18 YR OLD SON WHOM THE DGHTR HAD A CRUSH ON GOT KILLED IN A TRAGIC AUTO ACCIDENT INSTANTLY. NEEDLESS TO SAY I WAS FORCED TO CLOSE BECAUSE NOT ONLY FINANCIALLY I WAS HAVING IT ROUGH BUT EMOTIONALLY I STAYED IN SHOCK AND GRIEVING FOR 2 1/2 YRS. I WAS DEFINITELY IN NO CONDITION TO RUN A BUSINESS AND I HAD NO FAMILY MEMBERS TO HELP ME WHILE I GRIEVED SO I CLOSED THE BUSINESS DOWN. THAT HAS BEEN 13 YRS AGO AND I HAVE SEEN THE MOTHER/DGHTR THIEVES ABOUT 25 TIMES. THEY HAVE TRIED TO COME UP TO ME ONCE I GUESS TO GIVE THEIR CONDOLENCES, I LOOKED AT THEM AS IF I DID NOT KNOW WHO THEY WERE AND EVERY TIME AFTER THAT. I WILL SEE MY SON AGAIGN ONE DAY BUT IN THE MEANTIME I AM A STRONG BELIEVER IN GOD AND I AM NOT LOOKING FOR REVENGE BECAUSE I DO NOT BELIEVE I IT, BUT I KNOW THAT DEEP IN MY HEART THAT THEY HAVE TO LIVE WITH THEMSELVES AND I AM SURE THAT THEY HAVE LOST JUST AS MANY NIGHTS SLEEP AS I HAVE. ON TOP OF IT ALL I WAS VERY GOOD TO THESE 2 PPL IN LIFE ALL THEY HAD TO DO WAS ASK I WOULD HAVE GIVEN THEM THE SHIRT OFF MY BACK, BUT USE TO THINK THAT EVERYINE IN THE WORLD WAS TRUSTWORTHY AS ME AND I WOULD LOVE TO GO ON THUNKING THAT THIS WORLD IS LIKE THAT BUT UNFORTUNATELY NOT ONLY THE POOR STEAL BUT SO DO THE RICH. BECAUSE I OWNED A BUSINESS AND PAID CASH FOR MY HOME FROM A DEATH POLICY FROM MY BROTHER THEY THOUGHT I WAS RICH ARE PPL THAT IGNORANT PPL THAT OWN THEIR OW HOME AND HAVE A BUSINESS CAN BE JUST AS POOR AS A HOMELESS PERSON DO THEY NOT REALIZE THAT IT IS THE WORK AD THE HARDER YOU WORK YOU MAY MAKE IT BUT THESE PPL HAVE BILLS ALSO HOMELESS PPL DON'T WILL GOD LET THESE PPL THAT CONTINUOULY MAKE THE SAME MISTAKES SHOULD GOD KEEP FORGIVING THEM AND OTHE DAY THAT I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO SEE MY SON AGAIN I'LL SEE THESE THIEVE THAT HAVE COST ME 130,000.00 AND THE HOUSE THAT WAS HOME TO ME TOO. BUT MY LIFE WOULD BE A BIT BETTER JUST KNOWING THAT WHEN GOD IS READY FOR ME TO COME HOME I TRULY DO NOT WANT TO SEE THEM. There is no way for the device to be removed. Everyone will have their own codes, to activated the system, and to removed the system, or if you tamper with my security system. A alert will sound right to the security team, and they will start tracking you right a way, and if you don’t call in 5 minutes, it go to the FBI.

This isn't a perfect world so anyone who thinks your sh** won't get stolen you're dumber than dumb. thou shalt not steal but it happens anyway... get over it. This is a crappy topic, bad article, horrible all around. If you can't manage your things in a large crowd you should have stayed home. Anyone dumb enough to steal from me will catch a beat down, so when ppl try to rob me they fail. I always end up robbing them.
