A tax called 'No Child Left Inside' has been backed by New Mexico's
Sierra Club, an environmental and outdoor preservation group. The proposed one-percent sales tax on
video games and
televisions is aimed at funding outdoor classroom initiatives and encouraging New Mexico's increasingly obese and diabetic youth to get off the couch and explore the great outdoors.
According to New Mexico's State Parks Division, 80 percent of the state's youth live within a half hour of a state park, but only about 10 percent have ever actually set foot in one. We think that video games and central air might have a particular attraction to the youth in a state where temperatures can reach well over a hundred degrees.

I have never had chiildren and I don't think I should have to pay a tax on a game I buy or a tv I buy because some lazy parent can't police their own children. My parents regulated my tv and what I played, so come on get real and stop being stupid Jackasses and penalize everyone because some dummys can't parent.

I heard that the FDA has proposed to congress to implament a fat assesment tax or better known as FAT. Now this tax would be assessed by Fat assessors or FATA. In order for the FATA to make proper assessments on individuals they will be using specialize scales (SS). Assessors will take these SSs to residences between the hours of 8:00PM and 6:00AM in order to capture couch potatoes in their unawares. Each individual in the residence will be weighed and taxed accordingly. President G.Wya Bush stands firmly behind the FATASS bill by saying that, "We know that there are individuals out there harboring weapons of MASS distruction."

What a joke... another excuse to install another tax that will never be deleted in the future. Why don't they use a carrot instead of a stick. A NOVEL IDEA!!!! Give parents a tax-break for getting the kids outdoors instead of BIG-BULLY and browbeating the populace.
DgoatkeelorJan 24th 2008 5:24AM
see they couldnt think of anything so they stuck it on video games..
people wake up...a tax is a tax...video games are already taxed atleast twice before you get them...
this is going into someone pocket..what do they expect to accomplish with this..people need to speak out and VOTE...this is the governments way of getting over..like when a man pays child support then has to pay a secret interest tax on paid support after the kid turns 18 that doesnt go to the kid or family ...it never ends...

I think this is getting totally out of hand. When are we going to let people grow up and make their own decisions good or bad concerning their family's? It's none of our business if they are obese or not it's their choice and they have to live with the consequences. Stop providing free health care for anyone; they buy insurance or pay for it themselves they might just make the decision themselves to take care of their health.

now if they taxed us everytime we jerked off. think of the revenue THAT would generate. 1 dollar per jerk. and if you cum hard, we'll give you a 1 time 300 dollar rebate that will EJACULATE, i mean stimulate the crashing economy, i mean the ever expanding healthy economy. sorry i used the wrong words
drumroll please mr. bush?
craigJan 24th 2008 6:16AM
oh and we reserve the right to increase this jerkoff revenue to 4 bucks per jerk next year to compete with the "low" inflation that we've created and the "decrease in taxes" all designed to help you the consumer of course
oh and we'll blame this on osama bin laden

Well, I can tell by most of the comments here that we CLEARLY need this approach to over-all improvement of health. It is sad to know that most of you, whom SHOULD get off the couch, will probably live shorter lives due to your lazy life-styles! Pooh on all of you lazy boys!

The truth is, that A LOT of children, if not most, would rather play outside, but Parents like Myself are too afraid to let Their Kids go outside. With all of the chold molesters, rapists, and crazy f*cks that run rampant and get special treatment it is not safe for Kids anymore. Every dirty pedophile within a 20 mile radius is already searching for little ones to prey on. They go to jail and get pooh poohed out, right back onto the streets. Maybe instead of imposing a tax on games, they should use the tax money to keep the nutcases in the system.

what won't they tax?
taevans70Jan 24th 2008 10:38AM
One thing to remember is taxes are not from one side or the other. Both parties love to tax, they just do it in different ways. I remember one time in NJ they cut the income tax, then my property tax went up 800 dollars. The savings to me was -500 dollars that year. Taxes do not go away once instituted.

S. Hochman, the foul stinch that comes out of your mouth is pathetic, of course that's probably what you hang around with. Taxes is not the answer, only a new revenew sourse for the government they need to get the parents off the couch first [of couse most of them have to work] so video games is the best and cheapest childsitter they can get, plus they don't have to deal with the snotnose kids they brought in this world, just feed them mcdonald's garbage and shove them in front of the games and then go to the local sports bar, good parents!!!

ok so drop the fees for accessing these parks, supposed to be a free country right.I for one am disgusted that we as citizens and tax payers have to pay fees to enter our national parks.we could fund a lot of youth programs with all the money spent on war.If more folks could afford to take their kids to these places, they might do it.
DukeJan 24th 2008 10:05AM
Amen!!! Steve Hochman You hit it right on the head. Why don't the parents get off their dead asses and put the foot somewhere with these kids.
When I was a kid some 50 years ago my parents said "Get out of the house and "Go out and Play" And thats what I did all day, sometimes all by myself....Amazing
TimJan 24th 2008 10:38AM
This is news? In NYS, we already get taxed for video games.
JenniJan 24th 2008 10:50AM
I'm all for encouraging kids to spend more time outside! However, video games and television are not the cause for the nearly 20% obesity rate in our country's children. Neglectful parents are the cause, and, unfortunately, they are not being held accountable. A parent who allows their children to sit in front of video games and/or television while they become overweight and unhealthy should be charged accordingly...as a neglectful/abusive parent. There are government agencies in place who are responsible for addressing issues of child neglect and abuse. Schools are also required to report neglect/abuse issues to these agencies. If parents aren't going to take an interest in their children's health, it's time for these people to step in and make them! Make them take their children to fitness and health awareness programs. Make them answer for it if their child's weight problem does not improve. Make them take an interest! Parents should be paying the price for their neglect, NOT the children! It's sad to say that parents should have to be forced to take an interest in their own children's health, but, for the children's sake, something must be done!

These eco-homos pretend to encourage people to use the parks. They when too many come, they will say 'Oh no, were causing erosion in the precious park...stop all human access!!!' or 'Oh crap, there's an endagered species over there, we can no longer allow humans to use touch this land!!!'
F--- the Sierra Club and if you like them, then F--- you too...stupid liberals!!!
