Facebook Keeping Personal Profiles, Even After Users Delete Them
Facebook is in trouble again with some more bad public relatkons to privacy concerns. This time it's in the UK, where the Information Commissioner's Office is concerned that deleting your profile on the site doesn't really delete it -- your private and personal information is archived for future use. Surely this will be come a concern stateside once word gets out.Yes, it seems that deleting your profile is not enough. You have to actually go through and delete everything out of it first, then delete your profile if you want to be really safe. This isn't what most users would expect to have to do, nor, argues the UK's Information Commissioner, should they have to.
It's hard to disagree -- though, to be fair, you have to admit that if you're concerned about privacy perhaps you shouldn't be signing up for a site that exists only for the purpose of harvesting and broadcasting personal information in the first place.
Regardless, please, Mr. Facebook, give us a "Delete" button that actually deletes without making us do the hard work for you.
