I too bought a fridge from Sears years ago. It broke so they came to the house to fix it and couldn't. They brought me a 'loaner' and took mine to the shop. About 6 weeks later they brought 'mine back' and took thiers. Problem was it wasn't mine. I argued with the 'boys' and explained to them this was not my fridge as mine was not textured ( I hate textured appliances ). After much back and forth with the store they finally informed me that mine could not be fixed, gee imagine that, and that they had 'given' me a higher end model. I was really in a bind as I had five small children and could not be without a fridge and then WERE taking back the loaner, so I agreed, stupid me. They took the loaner and left the 'better' fridge which in fact had no guts, no shelves, crisper drawers etc! After numerous calls to the service center I gave up, found some used guts at a recycle yard and replaced the fridge as soon as I was able. Guess where I didn't buy it from. I would NEVER buy an appliance or any expensive product from Sears.

Barb

Comments on Sears One-Ups Wal-Mart With $185 PC

Well..after reading half the dimwits saying there is spyware installed on this computer...think of this..Linux has the most secured file system out of the current Operating Systems available today. Installing spyware would not only be impossible..but think about the fact that every website you visit installs something to help monitor what you are looking at to help enhance the ads that show up in your browser hence the fact that google ads match the website you are visiting...and in response to Mike...you were declined for a SEARS card and then vowed to never shop there again? Read your own words and think on it.."it was my first attempt to establish credit" not many retail stores will accept someone with NO past credit history.....and also to LAL, I'm sure them not accepting your card while you were on the phone made you upset but imagine if they would have accepted it with someone on the phone pretending to be you...common sense...

tommysalomiacdc

Comments on Sears One-Ups Wal-Mart With $185 PC

Is the monitor extra? "Spy software". I SERIOUSLY doubt Sears is putting Spyware on this PC. They don't build the PC. They order in pre-built units with the OS installed. I SERIOUSLY don't think they are THEN turning around, booting up EACH individual PC and then installing Spyware. You did give me a bit of a chuckle though. ;)

2) To James, poster #4: Good job spamming your URL. I'll be sure to avoid your URL like the plague now, like I do any spammed URL. Way I see it, if your shop/product/whatever was worth anything, you wouldn't have to spam it on random blogs. :P

3) To Daniel Gaunt, poster #7: I'd have to price out the parts, but I might be able to build a "better" one for about the same amount of money, and install Windows...I don't think I could but I'd have to price it out. BUT, you miss the point of this PC also. It's not meant for people who build their own. I do build my own...but this PC is meant for someone just wanting a basic cheap Internet browsing/e-mail sending PC. It's not meant to do much else. In general, unless they have someone else build them a PC as a gift, people doing that don't build their own systems.

Anyway, to reply directly to the article and not individual posters now, I've seen this PC mentioned somewhere else, and there was no mention of Sears as the retailer/reseller, if I recall right. I can't find the article though currently.

As an aside, I'm somewhat amazed this blog also doesn't mention the ASUS Eee laptop along with the OLPC and the Wal-Mart one. Do suggest a google search, do some research on it. (And since I flamed a spammer for posting a URL, I won't post one myself even though I don't sell any ASUS products. ;) )

Givra

Comments on Sears One-Ups Wal-Mart With $185 PC

Missed part of the article, they do mention the ASUS Eee.
