Cell Phones Blamed for Disrupted Sleep
There have been many claims and supposed findings about the impacts of electromagnetic radiation from cell phones and your health. So far, none of these studies have come up with hard proof that shows any real negative link. Now, a new study -- which found that the amount of radiation given off by a cell phone can disrupt your sleep -- is adding a little more gas to the fire,
The study, which was conducted at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), showed that exposure to electromagnetic radiation resulted in disturbed sleep patterns, potentially affecting your body's ability to recover from a day of stress. This news is an eye-opening finding for gadget fans who have trouble nodding off at night, especially those who use the alarm clock function on their phones.
The study only involved 71 men and women, so we'd like to see some further testing performed with a somewhat larger pool of participants. Nevertheless, you can be sure we will be shutting off our phones before nodding off for the evening -- or maybe just leave them in the other room.

The whole world has gone crazy ! Why does everybody have to have all the gadgets ? Why can't life be "simple". We don't need all the new technology ! You just don't have any idea how much better you'd feel if you "slow down & use the old black desk phone". I do !

Most places in the world are blanketed with EM radiation, from television, radio, GPS and even pollen count broadcasts! All this artificial electromagnetic radiation CANNOT be good for the human body, and may be killing the bees and contributing to the mutation of so many species that have been reported in recent decades.

You can tell who the older people are here. Cell phones are good for cars if you break down. But, not while driving or at work. They have voice mail for a reason.

unfortunately, i only have a cell, no home phone, couldn't see the point in paying for both and since i have to be accessible to my employees 24/7 in my job, i HAVE to sleep next to my phone...it is on almost always 24/7. as a previous reader commented, guess i will be replacing batteries more frequently than others, too. any advice on how to minimize the damage it may be doing to my sleep habits?

Years ago we did away with our home phone (land line) because of all the BS with telemarketers and since all of us within the house already had cell phones (for specific reasons) mine because of health problems an if am out an about an something happens I have access to getting help.. our children when they turned 16 would get one because if ever they were away from home an were in an accident or needed help they had an access to get that help, hubby has one because of company policy .. I've been a chronic insomniac since very early childhood (LONG before cellphones were invented) so I couldn't tell you if this test proves anything for me.. My husbands gets turned off at night and we use mine in case of family emergency an someone needs to get ahold of us.. it doesn't seem to bother my husbands sleep nor do they bother the kids who are now 19 and 23 .. We figured since our home phone only ever rang when it was a telemarketer or other BS calls we didn't need it any longer since anyone who was "important" to us, they knew how to reach us via our cell phones.. technology will only continue to grow an just like the weather ..if you don't like it, stick it out it's bound to change tomorrow.. just like this food or this vitamin or supplement is good one day an OH MY, next year all of a sudden it's the worse thing you could have eaten.. there's always going to be pro's an con's to everything.. that is just the way it is... either you'll love it or hate it, go with it or go your own direction.. any way you look at it.. there's always going to be controversy over what's good for us an what's not.. an then tomorrow it'll be vise versa .. PLAIN & SIMPLE! By, Misfitt

gloree, I am an actor and I was looking and feeling haggard. This is not good and I was also starting to have trouble memorizing. I found this suite of products: http://www.myBIOPRO.com/helenspierce . When I put them in place, my sleep deepened, I am memorizing confidently again and my appearance has brightened. I am thankful for restoring my wellness! and no more niggling worry about what radiation from cell phones and appliances might be doing.

There are companies such as Q-link, BioPro, BioElectric Shield and others that make products and necklaces that claim to defend the body against EMF pollution. I am extremely fascinated by these claims made by wearing these pendants. Does anyone have any experience wearing one of these necklaces and wish to share their experience? they say even wearing one of these will help you sleep better in the presence of electro magnetic frequencies. The study was talking about leaving your cell phone on near you at night while you sleep (at least according to the news article) not about using it a lot during the day or about it ringing at night and waking you up.
Also, in response to the person who says we do not need cell phones and that people who have one are "being brainwashed," I say that cell phones are very necessary in today's society. If you have any kind of job that requires you to stay connected, then you need one. If you travel alot, then you need one for safety reasons and in case your car breaks down or you run into trouble of some sort. Also, a cell phone bill costs little more than a landline bill (especially after considering long distance). What we do not need is land phone lines these days. My wife and I will probably never own a landline because we both have cell phones.

perry sounds like me. uses the same language and the same ideas. kudos to you perry. all this electronic stuff is bunk, and i am addicted to it and i'm over paying. what's wrong with this picture? i'm homeless because of corruption, yet i have lap tops and cell phones and a whole lot of crap but can't afford good food and medical care. we have a backward country now. all these junky motels are horrible too. the rf and microwave that come out of c phones is definetley dangerous and causes diseases.that's already been proven. they have been forced on us.

You can sleep near your cell phone and still hear it...I keep mine in a drawer next to the bed. The electromagnetic factor is due to constantly having it on your person. You may not have a way out if you HAVE to ANSWER all calls....doctors do and so do some counselors.
Try to find a way to limit WHO can call you. I have an aide who screens my calls....they can take most problems and only call me while I am off duty in extreme emergenicies. I have to be healthy to help others. Dr. B

Look, many who drink coffee deplete their systems of certain vitamins and minerals. It`s all related. Green beans have some of the B- Vitamins and I can clearly notice the difference when I don`t eat them. So take it for what it`s worth.

I have had a cell phone since 1988, last year I started charging it by my bed, I began not sleeping, and 3 weeks ago I started charging it in a spare bedroom converted into an office, and I have been waking up at 5:30 A.M. every morning without an alarm clock ever since.

Silly idiots complain and whine noting that cell phones disrupt sleep. This is not true. I sleep with the cellphone recharging or off, and it does NOT disrupt my sleep. I often check the email or the weather and it does not cause any problems with my health or anything else. Alarmists should shut up and learn how to control their anxiety and other problems. Also alarmists generally do nothing but worry about little things and most alarmist will end up paying more for their health problems brought about by endless worrying.

Ahem, interesting. May I however, suggest an alternative theory to electromagnetic radiation? Could it be that people that sleep next to their cell phones because they fear that they may not be notified promptly in an emergency have too much junk floating around in their little heads? And that, not electromagnetic radiation is what inhibits sleep?
