All the rumor-mongers were right: Apple announced the MacBook Air, the world's thinnest laptop. This beauty comes in at a ridiculous .16 inches thin -- so thin that it
fits in a manila envelope. It features a full-size keyboard, so there are no compromises as far as usability goes. It also has a 13.3-inch display, built-in iSight camera, and a new, larger trackpad which does all the cool iPhone-like things like zooming, pinching, and scrolling. It has an 80-gig drive built in unless you want to upgrade to a 64-gig solid-state (no moving parts) drive.
Do we want one? Heck yes. It starts at $1799 and ships in 2-3 weeks. Go get 'em!

Apple...Pleeeeze had two macbooks, both pieces of junk, the infamous screen flicker strikes again. Called customer support, wont talk to you for free, just out of warranty, the 1-800# recording and website tells me they will kindly direct me to dealer, where i can pay for their mistakes myself. See for yourself by doing a google search for "mac screen flicker" DONT BUY A MAC!!!!

Another non upgradable AppleJan 17th 2008 1:00AM
Yup scurry you Apple lemmings scurry to buy the latest overpriced soon to be obsolete and super expensive to repair Apple product. quick buy into Apple's non Eco friendly planned obsolesence policy.
Scurry Apple Lemmings forgoting that apple gave up whatever marginal uniqueness it had when they used there own design motorola chips.
Sigh my heart goes out to Apple Lemmings. Hardly any software that is decent barely any games vunerable OS with no built in firewall or anti-spyware Ooopps sorry you have to download 156 add ons from Apples website to get the same protection Vista has built in. (Oh so sorry did I reveal Apples Dirty little secert?)
I feel for them if they want to add more memory or a faster graphios card OOOPPPS sorry you can't what you have when you buy the system is what your stuck with OOOPPPS another Apple dirty little secert.
I cannot wait for Apple to go under again and Bill Gates tells them this time ooopppps sorry your on your own this time . Oh yeah i guess Apple Lemmings forgot that micro soft owns a lot of Apple stock in excahnge fopr the bailout. I heard Gates lines his bird cage with them.

It's stylish but not too practical. It looks much too fragile to stand up to heavy-duty use, unless its made of titanium or something. If its plastic, forget it. I buy refurbished HP notebooks for $499, and they're just fine, last forever. Just bought 3 and they run like a top, even with that crappy Windows Vista.
Non user replaceable batteryJan 17th 2008 1:17AM
Well apple has found yet another way to gouge thier customers with this "Air" Laptop. It needs to be sent in to have the battery replaced. I woder of you will get your laptop back or a refurb like they did with the IPod. Better make sure your drives are clear of any personal files if you send it in. Link to article from Apple itself.

My friend Steve Jean has one. Or if he doesn't, he will by the end of today. The guy is a sucker for Apple's stuff. I guess its coz he relates to them... showy, useless and expensive. For nothing!

I'd like to remind all those who are turned off because this product runs Mac OS X that all Apple's computers come with the option of booting up in Windows. All you have to do is select the amount of your hard drive to use for your Windows operating system. If you'd never use Mac OS X, you can make your entire hard drive Windows. It's literally that simple.

Mac is really nice if you are in grade school or chalenged. There will never be enough software option for Mac. Some time ago in graduate school, the usefull life of my commadore SX-64 was reached, I had to make a choice...I went with IBM and never looked back...It was difference between Beta and VHS. The only difference is that Sony knew how to lose gracefully. Folks like Mac seem to be so inovative, but it is only an operating system! If their intelectual input was toward the commonality, computer users all over would benefit...Sad, very sad.

Get the Sony Vaio CR series. It's *almost* that thin and it's way better I am sure...atleast it has a CD/DVD drive! I have the Vaio and I love it.

Calling Bush a human robot is grossly unfair...to robots. Robots must obey the three laws of robotics and have at least artificial intelligence. Bush doesn't obey any laws and neither of his IQ points work most of the time. Besides...I LIKE computers. They're predictable, reliable, and respond to people. King George the W does not do any of that..
PeterJan 17th 2008 5:29AM
PLEASE get your facts correct, it is .76 inches thick, NOT .16 inch.
StacyJan 17th 2008 10:37AM
Hmm. I like that its thin but I like my laptops to have a built in device where you can play DVDs and cds. I think I will keep my MacBook Pro and not even consider purchasing the new MacBook Air.
