Electric Football Is Back!

For you young'ns, electric football was originally created in 1947 when it was, clearly, one of the most high-tech games a kid could have. It was an electric game that consisted of a plug-in tin football field and a bunch of little football player figures. The vibration made the players move in all sorts of random directions, and the outstretched arms of the players made them "lock" in what we pretended was a tackle (though it looked more like a do-se-do). Yes, that's pretty much all it did. We got a chance to check it out at this year's Consumer Electronics Showcase and, yes, that's pretty much all it still does.
But we don't care. Low tech? Sure. In a world of polygons, real-time shading, and online Madden games, this is an exciting, refreshing kick in the pants, and we're psyched to see it make a return.

Geoff - a bunch of manufacturers made similar games. Rumor has it that Coleco once came out with a version in the 70s in which you could actually control 1 player on each team with some kind of rod and magnet (why they dropped the idea I don't know). Eventually Tudor came out on top. Tudor at some point sold it to Miggle. Miggle toys manufactured it for a while but recently (2006/07) lost their NFL licensing rights for the teams. They still make the game but they do not sell the NFL teams. Excalibur seems to have picked up the licensing but I'm not sure if they use the NFL teams. Hope this helps.
I'm 36 years old now but as a kid I would spend hours on end on a cold, rainy or lazy day playing this game. I had about 11 teams and made my own rules and kept stats in a marble notebook (remember those). I treasured that notebook and my stats for many years. I think I liked updating the stats as much as I did playing the game. About 15 years ago I bought my nephew a version of this game and he loved the madness too! It really is a timeless game. It would be nice to find an affordible place to buy all of the teams.

Beside the goalposts being backward, the sideline numbers are facing the wrong direction.
"Vibrating" football is actually the generic version of electric football. The real games is currently made by Miggle Toys who acquired the rights from Tudor.

has anyone tried this version of the game and does anyone know if they use real NFL teams?
