Louisiana Town Ditches 666 Area Code Over Religious Concerns

The poor residents of Reeves, Louisiana have been saddled with the telephone prefix of the beast since the early 1960's, and Christians in the town have been complaining since. Finally, the constant bellyaching paid off and for the next three months residents will have the option of changing their prefix to 749.
Mayor Scott Walker said it was "divine intervention," though we tend to think the power(s) that be have bigger things to worry about than this town's area code.

That is freakin' retarded. What's next, having the number 13 removed from calendars?
KittylizJan 8th 2008 10:37AM
Praise Jesus! My medical card had 666 in it and I threw a fit and made United Health Care change it. It does mean something. Good for the people who stand for God.. Amen you go... It is not just a area code. Everything we do comes down between God and the Devil. People get so cought up in the world they think using 666 is no big deal. But it is a big deal! It will matter in the end.

My first driver license (IL) last five digits were 6-6666. When I was still getting carded (many moons ago) for alcohol or tobacco, I would joke with the clerk that I am the "spawn of Satan." I could usually get at least a grin!
fartingbaboonJan 8th 2008 10:32AM
Hey, aerospacemajor, why not ditch your social security card and driver's license? They might add up to 666? ...or wait.. is there a series of 23s in there? Mwahahahaa!!

Pretty obvious none of these posters even know what a bible looks like......
fartingbaboonJan 8th 2008 10:34AM
I've read it, Edward. We're all going to hell.

Any Christian knows that 666 is the mark of the beast. I don't blame this town one tiny bit for wanting it changed. If license plates or any other legal thing given me contained these numbers, it would most definately be returned in favor of a new number. Kudos to this town for standing up to the right to change their area code.
God bless this town and its' inhabitants.

The number 666 is the number of the Antichrist, but until the Antichrist comes on the scene during the Tribulation, and you take the number willingly which means you will follow the Antichrist and deny Jesus, the number 666 really is nothing to be concerned about. Once you take that number willingly and know that you are denying Jesus Christ and are making the Antichrist the one you will make your god, you are doomed. I agree with Mari that it does seem that people will defend any faith that isn't Christianity, but we have been warned of this in God's Word, the Holy Bible. I believe that is why the world hates the USA. Our nation was built on Christian principals. I think the Jewish faith and the Christian faith are the only two faiths of God. Jesus is our savior.

You think not having a 666 will save you, Kittyliz? No one is guaranteed they aren't going to hell. You eat a grape inthe grocery store and you're damned.
ihaterachealrayJan 8th 2008 10:43AM
my husband has 666 in his social security number and his cell phone number and his middle name is Damien!!!!!!!! He loves to freak out superstitious people with that one.
CookieJan 8th 2008 10:58AM
I find it funny that religion is now being compared with superstition. Those are the beliefs of the people living there. They have a right to not like their phone numbers starting with a satanic number. It doesn't affect anyone else, it's just an interesting story. But of course most people would take this as an opportunity to bash the Christian religion. Maybe if you would put enough effort into finding something to believe in, rather than criticizing people who do, you might understand.

You can be the most religious person in the world, but have impure thoughts about a neighbor or coworker's spouse. Bam! 1 way ticket to Hades. Have constant sexual fantasies about teenage girls, hell. Snag a candy bar from a quickee mart? Hell. Anything can send you packing. We're all damned. Every last one of us.

in the dream whoever the nut case was that had it about the beast and started this whole 666 business ... but in dreams numbers are upside down so the true number of the so called beast is 999 and if you add together it is 27 then added together it is 9 in numerology that may mean something.
StephenieJan 8th 2008 10:46AM
These people didn't want to get rid of it because it’s a "superstitious" thing and that they thought stuf was going to happen to them. It has everything to do with what that number stands for. It’s the mark of the beast (Satan) who is very much real and Satan disguises himself as an angel of light and is seeking to devour. Its not rocket science that this is why the world is so evil today. I wouldn't want to dial a number that represented Satan and his evilness every day and if you are the kind of person that wouldn’t have a problem with it then God help you.
HeatherJan 8th 2008 11:13AM
I am not a superstitious person but I have read the bible and whether scientific fact proves it or not the number 666 is satan's mark. So you may go through your entire life with good luck and happy times and think its funny but when you go to hell because of it, I bet you won't be laughing.
fartingbaboonJan 8th 2008 10:48AM
To "ihaterachelray", Damien is obviously a demon of some sort. Cut him loose and move on.
fartingbaboonJan 8th 2008 10:50AM
Anyone ever see 976-EVIL? Mwahahaha!!!
Tmsweet772Jan 8th 2008 10:54AM
Just another example how people need to involve their religion in everything. Its a scary thing. When is this religious movement going to go too far? The last time I checked. Theres no national religion in the U.S.
JeanJan 8th 2008 10:57AM
Interzone, when Jesus said to his disciples ...I tell you the TRUTH, THIS GENERATION will CERTAINLY NOT PASS AWAY until all these things have happened...", he was not talking about the generation the disciples were living in. He said "this generation" which meant the generation living in the latter days which I believe is the generation we are living in now. If He was talking about the generation the disciples were living in, why wouldn't He have said the generation you are living in now? He was talking about a future generation. He could not have been talking about the generation the disciples were living in because none of the other signs which are foretold in the Bible had been fulfilled. Now they have been.

This is just another example of the stupid religous freaks way of thinking. All bet the same idiots would bill bats, that have been recorded eating as many as 600 misquotes an hour.
These religious freaks are the cause of most of the problems that we have in our society. If we got rid of regligion we would get rid of most of our problems/troubles that we have in our world.
