Louisiana Town Ditches 666 Area Code Over Religious Concerns

The poor residents of Reeves, Louisiana have been saddled with the telephone prefix of the beast since the early 1960's, and Christians in the town have been complaining since. Finally, the constant bellyaching paid off and for the next three months residents will have the option of changing their prefix to 749.
Mayor Scott Walker said it was "divine intervention," though we tend to think the power(s) that be have bigger things to worry about than this town's area code.

Well I dont think I would want the mark of the beast as my area code. Say what you want but the bible did say that 666 is the mark of the beast in other words "Satan" . Looking at the current state of Lousiana they dont need anything even closely relating to satan. Those poor people need all the divine intervention they can get.

when I got married my DL number is 111-666-65-111.hows that.

This article contradicts itself. Is it the area code or prefix? As far as I can tell, there is no 666 area code, and certainly wasn't one in 1960 when all area codes had either a 0 or a 1 as the middle number.

im sorry but all of you need to go read your Bible in Revelation 13:1-18. Here's verses 16-18..."And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark., or the name of the beast, or the number of his name. Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six." It is no mere superstition, the number WILL be used one day in the end times after GOD comes back for HIS people, the ones who have accepted JESUS CHRIST as their personal LORD and SAVIOR! It is sad to see how ignorant people are today to just ignore what GOD's WORD has to say!

This definately got my attendtion this morning. A year ago I called a business in La. to sell them some ink supplies. During our chit chat I mentioned I was surprised by the area code--she yelled into the phone, stating it's JUST an area code!! Mind you---I only mentioned it in passing, and didn't make a big deal of it. Her reaction was over the top, and she was in need of more than just toner for her printer. I have stayed away from that topic ever since:)

I wish my number was (666) 666-6666.
That way I would never get a phone call from a superstitious person.

The number 666 is like the number 13. Some hates these numbers..some love them.
They should have just turned the numbers upside down....999.
How about the number 69? Never mind.......

Superstitions are unlucky!

Dexheimman21 needs to read a little more carefully. Garlic3 said, "The 666 prefix has been use for years here in SW Washington State with no issues" - learn the difference between a PREFIX and an AREA CODE. Talk about moran!
JohnJan 8th 2008 8:07AM
Well, it is The Mark of the Beast.. Who would want that other then a couple of AOL Blogger Geeks... Ummm, there's a reason Hotels don't have a 13th floor or a room 666... Morons!

Reeves does not have a 666 area code. The area code is the same as mine 337 the prefix is 666, that is the numbers following the area code. And to be honest, if I lived in Reeves I would not have a phone until the phone company would give me a different phone number.

Why don't you religious nuts quit pissing your pants over this and get back to church where you belong???
ronJan 8th 2008 8:27AM
In a world where everybody is against God it's nice to see a few people worried we are offeneding him. If a person wants to put a religeious sign in their front yard at Christmas people want to shut them down saying they are ignorant, and they are offensive. A religious sign is concidered offensive to some people and we all need to be sensitive to their concerns. Some people find the number 666 to be a religious sign for the the Devil. Don't these people deserve the same equal treatment as those offened by religious signs. I say take it away if they want it gone, It is not our place to judge these people.

I wouldn't want the 666 area code either. This is not superstition, it represents the devil's number, the anti-christ. I want nothing to do with the devil!
MarkJan 8th 2008 8:22AM
666 from the beast, hmm were did that come from, oh wait, from the bible!! Go figure. get a grip people

Right winged religious idiots!

666 isn't actually six hundred and sixty six. The hebrew number system works like the Roman number system, where V is five and X is ten. The Hebrew number system would have three different letters for the number six hundred and sixty six, but uses the one for 6 three times, which would add up to 18, just as three V's in the Roman number system would add up to 15, not five hundred and fifty five. And the letter in ancient Hebrew, vav, transliterates as W. So www also translates to the mark, but it says the beast is a person.

666 is in my phone number..nothing bad has happened to me. In fact, it brought me good luck.
wolfiechatJan 8th 2008 8:35AM
Linda s Blunt/ as a mathimatical note if you add all even numbers is always get even numbers and if you add even numbers of odd numbers to even numbers you will get even numbers! Now doesn't that just make you think the devil is outside your door! LMAO
MarkJan 8th 2008 8:39AM
666, symbol of the devil, anti christ? Were did that come from? Oh the Bible, get a grip people, dont believe everything you read.
