French Health Minister Warns Against Excessive Cell Phone Use

The French may have only just jumped on the no-smoking-in-bars bandwagon, but they are leading the charge against health risks associated with cell phone use. Earlier this week, France's Ministry of Health issued a statement warning the public against excessive cell phone use. French Health Minister Roselyne Bachelot-Narquin (pictured) also went on France 2 TV and rehashed the well-worn theory connecting cell phone use and cancer (cell phones emit small amount of radiation).
While she stopped short of actually telling people to stop using their cell phones entirely, Bachelot-Narquin did say that people, especially children, should curtail their long-term proximity to phones by avoiding making calls if there's poor reception or by keeping phones away from their bodies (presumably by using a wireless Bluetooth headset).
Bachelot-Narquin acknowledged that the link between cell phone use and cancer remains specious, but cited studies in which it was found that people who used analog cell phones for more than ten years were more likely to develop tumors. What she didn't mention is that most people in countries like France and the U.S. no longer use analog phones and instead now use digital phones, and those haven't been around for much more than ten years.
So, the jury is still out on whether newer cell phones pose health risks or not.
But a statistic pointed out by BetaNews may shed some light on cell phones and cancer: Finland, the country with the highest per capita cell phone use in the world, listed tumors as the second biggest cause of death (23 percent) among men and women alike.
So maybe the French are on to something, or maybe they're just trying to one-up us on the banning of addictive activities that annoy other people. Regardless, cutting back on cell-phone-use certainly seems to be the flavor of the month (or the New Year), as evidenced by this New-York-City-woman's recent New Year's resolution.
One thing is certainly true: The questions around cell phone use and cancer are not likely to go away any time soon. And don't get us started on all the other gadgets that might be making you sick.

As a teenager with a cell phone, I find all of the "anti-cell phone" comments quite funny. My phone gets put to good use: not just blabbing with friends. I often use it when I go to the grocery store to verify items that need to be purchased. I keep it with me in case of emergencies, like a car accident. People really need to stop worrying about little things like cell phones, because they do a lot more good than bad.

The real health danger presented by cell phones is that you may get run over by some idiot who is talking on one while driving.

I think it will eventually be discovered that there are health risks in using cell phones. Much like the early microwaves before they began making modifications to keep radiation from getting to the users. Those most at risk will probably be those who use their cell phone almost constantly. If I were one of those people I definitely would get a bluetooth.

Yes, and a "bravo" to the French Minister of Health for her courage to alert the Public as the cell phone is dangerous for the health. Please see at http://www.mybiopro.com/smartcellchips for to learn more about this matter. That is a danger then it is sage to protect yourself on it.

They certainly do cause brain tumors. Anyone who has stood next to, or been in a bus or elevator with a person on a cell phone can tell there is a tumor by the moronic quality of the conversation. Of course we get sick and die from all that is around us, especially the filthy food, the air and the water. Did you think all this shit we've got wasn't going to have payback. We're lucky we all don't look like the elephant man.

WHAT IS A CELLPHONE????????

Radiation has to be kept in perspective. Cell phones put out milliwatts of radiation. This is deemed to be dangerous by some.
Do you go out in the summer time and get a nice tan? That's a radiation burn from a Hydrogen nuclear reaction. I guess we should all stay out of the sun.
Let the experts work this out. Knee jerking just deprives us of stuff that we enjoy for supersititous reasons.

I just left the Brain Tumor Doctor's office yesterday and my tumor continues to fade away as a result of Avastin & Camptosar (chemo) treatments as well as a positive attitude I do my best to maintain. I have about 10 more treatments to take and family members, friends, fans and myself continues to pray for a COMPLETE RECOVERY not just for me, but for anyone who has this frightening disease and we need to find a CURE today for those who will wind up with Cancer tomorrow!
My cell phone use has cut WAY DOWN because I now believe that it could have been "The Straw That Broke The Camels Back" to give me a Tumor! I now use a wire hearing device and do my best to keep the cell phone away from my body. I have made up my mind to take proceeds from cd sales to find a CURE for CANCER, regardless of what causes it we are LONG OVER DUE FOR A CURE! Read my story: www.NFCR.org
GO TO: www.cdbaby.com/FredLeonard or www.FredLeonard.com or www.myspace.com/FredLeonardMusic to purchase one of my cd's and I PROMISE TO GIVE PROCEEDS OF YOUR PURCHASEto help FIND A CURE at www.NFCR.org!
Thank You and May GOD continue to Bless Us All....

My 54 year old brother in law died June 4, 2007 from Class 4 GBM brain cancer caused by cell phone use. He used it everyday for business, sometimes 8 hours a day. Avoiding this tragedy is as easy as using an earpiece. 11 months, diagnosis to death; GBM gives you no time.

We are all going to die! Better to LIVE, a productive, full, vivacious and useful life, utilizing every modern convienience; than sit staring at the walls, hauling water from the creek, hanging clothes out to dry, cooking 12 hours a day, beating rugs, or riding a bike/walking to work. Give me central heat & air, microwaves, electricity, plumbing, dry cleaners, cable TV, cel phones, and fast cars, any day. Better to die before 68, since most of us will wind up rotting in a nursing home beyond that age, making some consortium rich.

They proved smoking causes Cancer.. They still smoke and chew
LouJan 5th 2008 2:28AM
Ann, you are absolutely correct. Radiation from cell phones can cause cancer by the heat they radiate. If you would like to be enlightened about cell phone hazards, pick up the book by Dr.George Carlo, titled " Cell Phones" Invisable hazards in the wireless age. The younger children are more apt to get brain cancer because their skulls are much thinner. If you recall, they said cigarette's would not cause cancer.

For those who hate cell phones and technology. How do you post relpies on the internet(technology newer than cell phones)with a PC (also newer than cell phones.Cell phones are 30 years old.

This is all sooo dumb!! If your going to get cancer your going to get it , too freakin bad but it's all in the genes. Cell phone or not if you got it in your genes, your doomed. That's just life.
Accept it and move on.
The French are idiots.
madcowgirl4hJan 4th 2008 10:55PM
...and living increases your chance of dying.
In unrelated news, it's been discovered that scientific research increases the incidence of cancer in lab rats.
That is all.

American doctors made the connection between cell phones and cancer YEARS ago. Some French woman agrees with us a decade after the fact and that's supposed to be incentive for us all to throw away our cell phones? The French should stick to doing what they do best--food and fashion. This from the people who are just now banning smoking in public places--about 20 years after we did it over here...
