Man Jumps Onto Subway Tracks for His iPhone
We've posted many, many stories about the iPhone that have likely inspired much technolust in all of you Apple fans out there. That said, we've also posted a number of stories about people killed by their phones, and we're planning on posting more, 'cause they just keep coming.
The latest killer-mobile story involves a man who lost his life while trying to retrieve a dropped iPhone. Bijan Rezvani apparently has only been reading the former type of story, and none of the latter, as he risked his life by jumping onto a live NYC subway track to retrieve a dropped iPhone.
That's right, Rezvani, a tourist visiting NYC, apparently dropped his iPhone onto the tracks while snapping some pictures. Rezvani leapt onto the rails and retrieved his iPhone. He somehow managed to get back up onto the subway platform before either he or his iPhone were crushed. This is the exact same stunt a woman attempted in 2004, but with far more tragic results.
Such stupidity/bravery, of course, inspires thoughts of just what any of us might jump onto train tracks for. In a quick poll among Switched bloggers we came up with a few things we'd think about making the leap for, including a wayward puppy, a passport and cash. [Laptop magazine, which published an interview with Rezvani, also offers up this longer list of jump-worthy gadgets.] Notably, none of those things was a gadget of any sort.

people will jump on the tracks for things like books, hand bags, etc. It really seems to have more to do with being young and able then what is dropped. The jump back and forth is only about four feet and the average sixteen year old can do it with no problem. That said I wouldn't jump for anything, because you can just tell one of the MTA employees.
In addition, looking for all of the stories involving people doing stupid things to save something they value, just for the sake of reporting on the harm to those people, is sick and stupid.

Just goes to show you HOW materialisc we really are...Sad but very true...If you can't enjoy it or affraid of using it why have it....we put to much on the newest, biggest, latess items out there than we do on personal relationships..bet that guy wouldn't even smile back or talk to you on the street...

You can replace a phone, not your life! Has anyone heard of insurance? I have it on my phone.

it depends on the situation I won't exchange my life w/ things that won't last you can have another w/o risking urself that means they love things more than life.

I'd jump to save a person, but that wasn't a selection, so I picked "puppy."
Sam @ Jan 4th 2008 9:06PM

My cousin Becky is about to post a stupid response. Look out for it !
mtprinting @ Jan 4th 2008 9:59PM
he should lay down on the tracks and make a phone call.
IZ @ Jan 4th 2008 10:01PM
i would so do it 4 a puppy because all animals are awsome and they deserve it. They are so much more better then humans.
Jamie @ Jan 4th 2008 10:25PM
Man, this guy has his priorities in the right place, huh? I would do the same for a person, I would hope. Why wasn't that a choice? Maybe Tim thinks a human life isn't worth as much as these material things.

My thoughts on these stories won't really matter to many people, but this is how I look at it. Yes, the iphone is a valuable piece of property, but I would not risk my life for one. On the other hand; I would risk my life to save an animal or another human being. I can always replace a piece of equipment (inanimate object) but, I cannot replace a lost life. So my choice would be an easy one. Life over objects.
KUUIPO @ Jan 5th 2008 12:31AM
I would have just let the darn train smash my iphone. My life is alot more important than that phone. A phone can always be replaced, but certainly not a life. The guy's obviously not that intelligent.

Dumb ass Indian.
kd @ Jan 5th 2008 12:56AM
FYI, can't "insure" an iphone or blackberry with at&t for that matter. still not worth jumping on the tracks for!!! i have one,so BELIEVE ME, it's not worth jumping for!!! lol

That's because the dumb shit knew that iPods are the most breakable gadgets in the world. You DROP this little bitch, and it breaks. What is it then, $300 down the drain?
My baby (a Creative Nomad) holds MORE mp3s than 3 iPods put together, cost LESS than 1 iPod, and has survived three very hard falls.
Take that, Apple.

I would make the leap to save a human being or an animal....I would not to save a phone, camera, handbag etc......
Now IF the human was down there because they jumpped down to get a phone, camera, handbag etc...... well here is an example of Darwinism at work.
Constable Odo @ Jan 15th 2008 9:48AM
What the heck. Dropping an iPhone sounds like a good reason to jump down onto the tracks. The only one problem I see is that those giant NYC subway rats might try to fight you for it.
Mom @ May 11th 2008 4:59AM
I chose "puppy", because I am a real animal lover
and I couldn't just stand there and watch a puppy die, or a person certainly! But for inanimate objects that can be replaced, never! You can never replace a life!!
